Arriva has a long history dating back to 1938 when the Cowie family opened a second-hand motorcycle shop in Sunderland, UK. Little did we know it would become the first chapter in our incredible story that would see us grow to become a pan-European passenger transport partner.

Today, we are diversified across 12 countries, holding leading market positions in many markets across the countries we operate in. We are one of the largest transport services organisations in Europe, employing c.39,000 employees and delivering more than 1.2 billion passenger journeys every year.

Arriva have embarked on a transformational change program to modernise our BI, Analytics and Data platforms. We’re migrating from legacy on-premises solutions to cloud-native platforms and services.

About the role

We have a fantastic opportunity on the BI & Data Platforms team for a BI Developer to join a small team to provide development and support activities across the platform.

You’ll be working across the entire BI lifecycle – ingestion, transformation & integration, data modeling, visualisation/reporting on a cloud-native platform.

The team supports both the Legacy and cloud platforms. The current legacy platform(s) are supported and managed following ITIL processes, but we already have plans to

explore DevOps and agile ways of working during 2023 for the cloud-native platform.

Arriva operates a hybrid model, this role could be based at our Sunderland, Leicester, or London locations. There will be occasional travel between offices for initiatives/projects.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop enhancements / changes based on business/user requirements
  • Support investigation / resolution of incidents and service requests
  • Support the business in their BI/analytics self-service journey
  • Collaborating with Arriva Technology Partners (external 3rd parties / vendors)
  • Provide out of hours support via an on-call rota

About you

You can demonstrate experience of working in a similar role within a BI & analytics function.

You will have good SQL and ELT/ELT experience and ideally knowledge of the following:

o Scripting (e.g., PowerShell, bash, python)

o AWS services (in a BI/analytics context) although other cloud platforms are OK, the BI context is important

o Knowledge of ITIL processes, particularly Service Operations and Service Transition

Any experience of DevOps and Agile ways of working would be desirable.

Outside of the technical skills and experience, you have strong written and verbal communication skills, a confident communicator and team player. You are passionate about BI & Data and looking to progress your career in this area.
