We are looking for a highly motivated and analytical individual to join our dynamic Business Insights team in Manchester or York to transform data to enable better decision making and insights generation. You will deliver value adding projects utilising our analytical tools such as Snowflake, Alteryx and Tableau, supporting all functions across Northern.

About the role:


As the Business Insight Analyst your responsibility will be to deliver insightful data analysis and reporting, to showcase key trends in a way that can be easily understood across the business. You will be reporting to the Business Insight Project Manager and support the wider Business Insight team, helping to deliver new insights allowing us to save time, cost or drive revenue.


Being a valued team member, you’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams and participate in industry forums, conferences and committees, to represent Northerns interests whilst contributing your technical expertise of translating complex data into clear and actionable recommendations to support business improvement projects, ultimately driving customer satisfaction.

Key responsibilities:


This is a varied and challenging role, but here is a taste of what your day-to-day activities could include:

  • Producing detailed and impactful insight, highlighting key trends, opportunities and risks.
  • Effectively communicating insight to a variety of stakeholders across the business.
  • Collaborating with the BI Project Manager and team to identify valuable projects enhancing business insight and decision-making.
  • Defining project scopes based on stakeholder needs to deliver impactful BI solutions
  • Working with the Business Insight team to develop realistic timelines and communication plans for project delivery to stakeholders.
  • Utilising technical skills and third-party support to deliver BI solutions that improve processes, efficiency and revenue regeneration.
  • Using data processing tools such as Alteryx to improve and streamline data to enhance business performance.

About you:


You will be enthusiastic about exploring new technologies and continually learning to help BI at Northern to continue leading in analytical techniques. With a passion for building relationships with a wide variety of people from varying levels.


We’re also looking for the following:

  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent experience)
  • 1+ years experience of using data tools (incl. Snowflake, R, MongoDB, Tableau and Alteryx or equivalent) to support and enable value adding data projects.
  • Experience of data analysis and processing
  • Have a high performance and achievement mentality; whilst also being creative and innovative.
  • Likely to have worked previously within a market insight, business insight or customer insight analyst role. Within Rail or another industry.
  • Experience of working with a broad range of functions in an organisation, and able to communicate project plans and timelines
