Over the course of your 12-month placement, we’ll give you a taste of what it’s like to work with us, while you gain valuable experience to help guide your career choices.
Taking guidance and direction from both the Group Accounting Director and the Environmental Consultant, you will be given key insight into the live operation of the Business Analyst, Environmental Sustainability and Accountant disciplines, where you’ll be given the opportunity to ‘get involved’ in the day-to-day and learn a mix of practical knowledge and technical skills.
All the responsibilities we’ll trust you with:
Business Analyst key functions:
- Liaising with the Group’s Accountant’s, produce a schedule of all reporting requirements
- Ascertain the source database where each report derives its data from
- Map each report’s data fields prior and post implementation on the financial management system
- Liaise with the Group IT department to re-write each report in the financial management system
- Liaise with the Senior Management Team (SMT) to ascertain their Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Document SMT’s KPIs to ascertain the business unit’s KPI landscape with a view to build a dashboard and reporting suite incorporating all KPIs
- Assist with the roll out and training of the financial management software
- Supporting the Group’s finance teams in the production of monthly management accounts and associated reporting requirements
- Monitor and control Shell fuel cards and associated reporting
Environmental Analyst key functions:
- Attend site visits and carry out auditing duties
- Source, analyse and report on carbon emissions data and energy usage (SECR compliance)
- Identify energy/emissions saving measures and analysing the effectiveness of implemented schemes (ESOS)
- Monitor and control Dawsongroup’s energy landscape
Accountant key functions:
- Fixed asset register and capital invoice administration
- Monthly cashbook preparation
- Journal preparation and posting
- Road fund licence administration
- Using the IBM AS400 accounting system
- Compile the Payment Practices Report
Your areas of knowledge & expertise:
- Studying towards an analytical or business degree
- Basic understanding of financial statements, accounting, and variance analysis
- Eagerness to develop in the accounting and business analyst realm
- Self-starter when it comes to identifying efficiencies and ‘getting involved’
- Strong analytical and project management skills
- Capability to influence peers and senior managers
