Business Development Officer Liverpool, England

Job description

The Pandemic Institute is seeking a Business Development Officer to help it deliver an ambitious programme of work. Our vision is that the Institute will provide resilience and response to epidemics and pandemic threats, ensuring that never again will the world be as unprepared as it was for COVID-19. The Pandemic Institute (TPI) will deliver the world¿s first comprehensive end-to-end institution for pandemic preparedness, including prediction, preparation, prevention, response and recovery, thereby becoming a global hub of scientific excellence with societal impact.

In support of the G7¿s 100 Days Mission for pandemic preparedness and response (please see: https://ippsecretariat.org/), The Pandemic Institute wishes to develop strategic relationships with UK-based companies working on diagnostics, vaccines and therapeutics for infectious disease, including clinical trials. The appointment of a Business Development Officer will assist the Institute in fulfilling this aim.

The role-holder will:
Support strategic partnerships in research between TPI and key businesses ¿ regionally, nationally and internationally. Acting as an ambassador for TPI in the diagnostics, vaccines and therapeutics (DVT) space, they will articulate its offering to business i.e., academic expertise, a portfolio of intellectual property, and access to specialist facilities and equipment.
As well as seeking new opportunities, the role-holder will have an aptitude for broadening and deepening existing relationships with business, e.g., where these have been established through a single academic or research group.
Key to the above will be the ability to share information and intelligence with others working in the same space - for example, business development colleagues at TPI¿s three partner universities and Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust; members of the Business & Economic Support Team at Liverpool City Council; and economic development officers at the Combined Authority (Growth Platform).
The appointee will report to the Chief Operating Officer, whilst working on a day-to-day basis under the guidance of the Programme Manager with responsibility for business links.
As a key member of the Operational Support team, the role holder will be expected to lead with transparency and integrity, supporting inclusion and diversity in all aspects of their work.

This is a rare opportunity to be involved in the crafting of a globally ambitious organisation. Join us to help build a team to prepare the world for emerging pandemic threats.

The Pandemic Institute is hosted by the University of Liverpool and therefore the terms of employment will be based on those of the host organisation. If applying from within one of the founding partners, other employment arrangements may be considered.

This post is available on a fixed term basis from 1 August 2023 until 31 July 2026.

The University has the right to close the vacancy early if it is deemed that there have been enough applications received.
