Summary of the Business Development Manager role
As the Business Development Manager you will manage and foster partnerships with waste producers in key target markets, building a pipeline to ensure that maximum revenue is generated from continuous operation of the site biological wastewater treatment process and anaerobic biological solvent treatment process.
This will be a fully remote working role working Monday-Friday 37 hours per week.
Reporting directly to the Bioplant and Waste Services General Manager you will manage the day-to-day sales, enquiry, sample and billing functions of the bioplant, supporting our commercial operations as well as Sterling’s effluent management activities. You will also manage the scheduling, safe handling and duty of care compliance aspects for receipt of third-party waste.
Your responsibilities
- Growing sales and profits for the Bioplant through direct sales.
- Developing new accounts.
- Establishing and maintaining high level relationships of key accounts.
- Negotiating, in agreement with the business directors, significant business contracts/opportunities.
- Preparing and achieving sales forecast.
- Executing price strategy within agreed guidelines.
- Supporting with participation in major trade shows.
- Recommending and implementing sales tools (sales process, literature, brochures).
- Maintaining and developing existing customer relationships.
- Identifying new business opportunities to ensure optimum feedstock for the plant.
- Tracking revenue and profitability of the operation.
- Maintaining SAP database for enquiries, process orders and revenues.
- Ensuring waste streams allow compliance with all regulatory parameters and environmental permits for the treatment and discharge of Sterling’s and third-party effluent to sewer.
- Evaluating blending and pre-treatment requirements based on the characteristics of individual waste and effluent contributions.
- Evaluating and advising commercial contacts on scheduling of third-party waste.

Requirements for the role
- Previous operational experience of chemical manufacturing facilities.
- Ideally qualified to degree level in Chemistry or Environmental Management.
- Previous experience in biological treatment systems or equivalent waste treatment plant.
- Professional sales experience in waste of chemical industries.
- Knowledge of waste management legislation and operational waste management.
