The role supports our business’ aim to be a leading provider of sustainable energy solutions, partnering with customers on their journey towards carbon neutrality and serving 5-10% of the UK business energy market by 2030.

As a Business Development Manager in the B2B Sales Team you will report to the Sales Director. This role will specifically hold the ‘Corporate PPA’ subject matter expert position within the team. As the PPA expert you will support and train our Indirect sales leads in originating and closing PPAs. You will also be responsible for your own lead generation and signing I&C PPA and commodity customers via a direct channel approach.

The role is accountable for growing our PPA and commodity customer base in the I&C space as well as generating opportunities to upsell energy solutions to drive additional value. Typically securing I&C customers consuming greater than 10GWh of energy annually and operating in the Gas & Power market selling fixed and flexible commodity products.

YOUR PART IN THE TEAM

We are looking for an enthusiastic, proven, and positive business development and sales professional with a grasp on the economics of the I&C energy sector and associated markets. You will have the opportunity to make a lasting impact on an ambitious and growing B2B organisation. Being a field-based role, travel is a prerequisite as is the ability to travel on short notice within the UK and spend at least one day per month in our Milton Keynes office.

You will be required to deliver as follows;

Responsible for establishing a smooth and robust PPA sales processes and train your fellow team members in these processes.

Working closely with the Product Development team and other relevant teams across the Shell Group to develop established PPA products that will be ready to go to market.

Execute all internal and external work to originate and deliver I&C commodity Gas, Power & PPA customer contracts.

Develop new lead generation through desk research, sales calls, visits, direct online portals, events, roadshows, other networking opportunities and leveraging of existing Shell Group relationships.

Build, develop and maintain relationships directly with existing clients, as well as prospects to effectively manage sales journey from prospect new direct opportunities to servicing handover.

Provide the senior level sales point contact to support and ensure flawless, efficient operations and no control or compliance incidents.

Actively seek to understand and articulate our customer needs in order to enable product innovation and the cross-selling of energy related products available from other Shell Business Units.

Achieve sales targets and individual KPI’s within set budget.

Build and maintain excellent relationships internally working closely with colleagues ensuring business performance is optimised, standards of customer service enhanced, and new opportunities fully exploited.

Produce quarterly account plans, regular reporting on sales activities, achievements, challenges and planned target prospects. Adopt a ‘no surprises’ approach to reporting and communication with Senior Managers and be prepared to challenge the norm in a constructive and proactive manner.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO HELP YOU MAKE THE BEST OF THE ROLE

Sales and Negotiation skills: A proven track record of success within a direct sales environment and be able to demonstrate previous achievement of commodity energy sales targets including lead activity and management in a similar market.

Product Knowledge: You’ll have experience of selling renewable power purchase agreements and fixed/flexible power & gas supply commodity contracts to commercial & industrial businesses.

Project Management: Due to the requirement to establish PPA process and product you will have the ability lead process and developmental projects with experience in supporting Product Development for new products, ideally PPA related.

Interpersonal skills: Strong communicator with ability to communicate at C- level, both written and verbal; Ability to develop strong professional relationships internally and externally.

Organisational skills: Developed organisational skills with the ability to shift seamlessly between a range of tasks and competing priorities.
