Job description
South Bank University Enterprise Ltd, the enterprise company of London South Bank University, is looking for a Business Development Manager (BDM) to work in the Commercial Enterprise team in the South Bank Innovation division (SBI). SBI activities cover a range of income generating initiatives and also support wider entrepreneurial activity and external engagement between business, staff and students.
About you
The candidate will have business / commercial development experience, ideally in the higher education sector although this is not essential. You will have experience of identifying commercial/ research opportunities, creating and managing client relationships, identifying resources to deliver, and writing and supporting the development of proposals including financial business planning. You will be part of a team of BDMs but must also be able to work independently. You will have strong organisation and interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate effectively both internally and externally.
Exciting work you will do
The BDM will have responsibility for driving commercial research and enterprise income to meet challenging University targets through the identification, development and contracting of applied research and enterprise activity. This will involve both fully funded client contracts and also working on grant funded opportunities for university-business collaboration. The role will require close working with academic Schools and external organisations.
The skills and experience you will need to be successful
- Strong technical skills base, with high numeracy, analytical and IT skills, in addition to good written and document design skills.
- Experience of building and maintaining effective working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders
- Good management and organisational skills and attention to detail, not only managing activity in line with agreed outcomes, but going beyond this to identify areas for improvement.
- Flexible approach to work with the ability to prioritise complex workloads and manage changing priorities, whilst maintaining high standards of quality
- Knowledge of the funding landscape particularly UKRI (Innovate UK) and the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund would be advantageous.

This is a full time, Permanent position
Please note that the University is operating a hybrid working model which means a mix of working on site and from home, confirmation of days worked on campus are arranged with the line manager.
