The School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh is recognised worldwide as a leading centre of informatics and computer science research, knowledge exchange and teaching. It is one of the largest schools within the university and has grown significantly in numbers of staff, students and income in recent years.
The Opportunity:
We are inviting applications for a Business Analyst. The post-holder will provide project management and business process analysis for projects and other activities which will enhance the way the School operates, with a primary focus on streamlining administrative processes.
The role will require the post-holder to think and engage strategically and tactically in order to deliver and support projects. It will require a high degree of flexibility, adaptability and personal drive.
The post-holder will be highly organised, resourceful, and passionate about continuous improvement. They will have experience of leading the conceptualisation, planning and implementation of projects, ideally within the higher education sector; strong analytical and problem-solving skills; a track record of working collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders; and change management experience.

Essential knowledge, skills and experience are:
- Degree or equivalent formal training, plus typically relevant hands-on experience in a similar or related role(s). Or typically vocational experience, demonstrating development through involvement in progressively more demanding relevant work/roles
- Business process analysis/re-engineering experience.
- Practical understanding of project management and business process analysis methodologies
- Ability to build productive relationships with colleagues at all levels across the organisation
- Experience in using influencing skills to achieve positive outcomes
- Strong understanding of the people side of change with excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures, map business processes and document business requirements
- Ability to use own initiative and work independently, as well as working collaboratively within a team
The following desirable criteria will be evaluated by the level of proficiency. Recruitment will aim at selecting those candidates with the best possible performance in these criteria.
Desirable knowledge, skills and experience are:
- Relevant project management or analysis qualification, e.g. APMP, BCS, Prince2 or agile certification
- Experience managing business improvement projects
- Proficient in SharePoint and or Power Automate
- Experience managing multiple concurrent projects
- Experience of High Education level school operations
