Main Purpose
This role will help facilitate positive change for the Customer by assisting the delivery of projects affecting key driver metrics. The post holder will interact with internal stakeholders and subject matter experts in order to understand their problems and needs so that suitable new ways can be found to deliver business priorities. Having gathered the appropriate level of documents and information, the analyst will analyse business needs and requirements with a view to solving problems and/or designing solutions. Where proposed solutions are already proposed, the analyst will check these for viability and delivery against project success and overall customer strategy criteria.
Principal Accountabilities
Data Evaluation
- Works closely within South Western Railway departments to understand information related problem statements including inefficiencies and any potential/proposed solutions
- Uses data gathered to illustrate issues across key customer touchpoints to help better inform problem solving
- Gathers, evaluates and interprets business information and data with a view to suggesting new and improved ways of working
- Uses data modelling to identify future needs and to create and propose strategic solutions to existing business challenges
- Reviews existing process and procedure with a view to finding better ways of delivering output with a particular view to increased levels of digitalisation and IT solutions
- Undertakes task analysis and surveys as required
Delivery
- Prioritises initiatives based on business needs and requirements
- Produces written documentation to support their work and proposals
- Considers the risks and opportunities created by proposed change schemes
- Monitors deliverables and ensures timely completion of projects
- Ensures that plans are made to evaluate the success of any changes made and oversees the reporting of this evaluation
- Delivers additional work where required as directed by line manager or Head of Customer Strategy
Stakeholder Management and Communication
- Communicates with all relevant internal stakeholders to understand the needs of their teams
- Works with internal stakeholders and the Research & Insight Team as required to investigate feedback into the current service provided
- Gains agreement from senior stakeholders on the best methods of introducing change to the business
- Supports the Customer Strategy team in making recommended changes and helps to resolve any issues
- Plays a key role in communicating between internal departments and acts as a translator where required
Minimum Requirements
- Relevant and significant experience as a business analyst in a related field
- A bachelor's degree in a business related field preferred, or equivalent substantial work experience
- Exceptional analytical and conceptual thinking skills
- The ability to influence stakeholders and work closely with them to develop solutions
- Demonstrates advanced technical and documentation skills
- Experience of creating detailed reports and giving presentations
- Competent in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and Outlook
- Excellent organisational and planning skills
- Experience of leading and supporting successful projects
- Detailed knowledge of the business environment and direct business experience - in particular, they need to be able to glean a quick understanding of the management structures, politics and culture within SWR
Working Pattern
Working an average of 37 hours per week over 5 days
