A great opportunity has arisen for an experienced Business Analyst to join L&Q at a very exciting time where we are beginning a journey to transform the way we manage information about our buildings not only to provide a better service to customers old and new, but also to demonstrate that we manage our buildings safely.
This role will help ensure that the solutions we adopt will support Building Information Management standards (ISO 19650) and other relevant construction data frameworks and standards and enable the information to be collected and managed across the whole lifecycle of the building (construction, in use, disposal), and for that information to be easily accessible and usable for needs such as:
- property assets & liabilities register
- building information procurement during construction
- compliance with forthcoming building safety and fire safety regulations
- lifecycle cost prediction and monitoring
This role reports into the Senior Business Analyst, and the priority and direction in terms of work will be determined by the Building and Asset Information Programme, one of six core change programmes in L&Q.
You will be responsible for three primary aspects:
- Regularly assessing the technical and operational feasibility of the solution with key stakeholders (business and technical).
- Supporting the Programme in managing the requirements and ensuring user stories (functional and non-functional) are fully elaborated, documented and ready enough for their incorporation into software tenders, subsequent implementation of selected third-party packages, and for any in-house development
- Supporting the improvement in the quality of the solution through collaborative identification of good acceptance criteria, exploratory testing and supporting user acceptance testing.
You will be involved in:
- Production of software tenders for the strategic BIM software products
- Collaborative working on user stories with the product owner, test engineers, software engineers, other subject matter specialists and the business.
- Partnering with a Solutions Architect to ensure that technical designs are fit for purpose and adhere to architectural standards and target architecture.
- Determining and managing simple, meaningful requirements mapping and organisation, identifying all notable dependencies.
- Helping to create logical groupings of value-based requirements and use these groupings to create a release schedule that balances business priority with architectural dependencies.
- Bringing an understanding of any legal or statutory aspects that the solution has to meet.
- Conducting analysis "spikes" to elaborate on backlog items that need more analysis, researching requirements and their priorities
- Sitting with developers and testers as they are building code and tests to explain the story and its “done” criteria and verify that the defined system behaviours are aligned to those criteria.
Skills and Experience:
- Must have core business analysis skills in creating and refining user stories so that they are Independent, Negotiable, Valuable, Estimable, Sized appropriately and Testable.
- Must have experience of producing software tenders and evaluating supplier bid responses – direct involvement in OJEU / UK “Find a Tender” tendering will be helpful
- Must be able to undertake Story boarding and UI modelling to identify potential screen flows or user navigation design
- Must have experience of working in an agile software development environment that has applied Behaviour Driven Design and Test-Driven Development; experience of Acceptance Test Driven Development is useful.
- Experience of exploratory testing to support the delivery of user stories is required
- Direct involvement in assisting end-users with acceptance test planning by helping identify business scenarios to verify that the solution meets the business requirements is desirable
- Experience of conducting workshops, basic data modelling, process analysis and process mapping, and diagnosing the causes of business problems (root cause analysis techniques) are all desirable. Experience of Lean techniques is beneficial.
- Experience with Building Information Management or Asset Management is highly desirable.
- Experience of working with Low-code/No-code development platforms, working with reusable components to create workflows would be highly desirable
