Key Job Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostic tests and procedures using a variety of equipment, devices and electronic tools including PDAs and laptop computer.
- Perform preventive maintenance tasks on motor coaches such as replacing fluids and lubricants, checking wiper blades, replacing light bulbs, etc.
- Operate servicing equipment such as jacks, hydraulic hoists, battery chargers, pumps, steamers, etc. as instructed.
- Perform routine mechanical repairs and adjustments; remove, replace or exchange parts, as required. Inspect engines, transmissions, hydraulic, and electrical systems in order to identify problems or malfunctions and report problems to skilled mechanics or shop supervisors for diagnosis as required.
- Assist in the more complex repairs in order to gain additional skills.
- Make field “trouble calls” and attempt to repair equipment through standard checks, adjustments, or exchanging parts in the field.
- Maintain service records and process appropriate paperwork. Keep work area clean.
- Operate transit vehicles relative to maintenance activities.
- Perform related work as required
Training & Experience
- 1+ Years of experience in servicing and maintenance work on heavy equipment and vehicles/
- Technical college training in diesel or heavy duty equipment mechanics may be substituted for experience.
- Other combinations of training and/or experience which can be demonstrated to result in the possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position will also be considered.
- Experience servicing electric vehicles is a plus.
- Possession of a valid Class B California CDL with Passenger and Airbrake endorsements is a plus.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of general mechanic principles, to include knowledge of the basic practices used in servicing, lubricating, and making minor mechanical repairs and adjustments common to automatic-type equipment.
- Knowledge of the mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems common to transit vehicles.
- Knowledge of the tools (hand and power) common to mechanical repair.
- Knowledge of the use of computerized diagnostic equipment including readers, scanners, PDAs and laptop computers.
- Knowledge of and ability to use computer software applicable to the duties of the position.
- Ability to perform strenuous activity common to the trade.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams, service manuals, and other reference materials.
- Ability to perform routine, repetitive, and minor/major mechanical repairs and adjustments on vehicles.
- Ability to follow directions and ability to understand and retain information gained in training regarding specialized heavy duty transit equipment repair.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
