Job description
The Department is looking for an experienced member of the mechanical section of the Maintenance Team. The Department of Chemistry is a large department and as a fully trained technician, the role holder will provide a full range of installation, reactive repairs and general maintenance in varying building services, within laboratory, office, teaching and research environments. This will include work on N2 and compressed air gas lines.
Reporting to the Building Services Manager, the role holder's duties include: prioritising and carrying out mechanical work in various working environments, sourcing and ordering materials whilst maintaining effective stock level in readiness for emergency breakdowns, being responsible for maintaining a safe and efficient mechanical store along with a clean, tidy and safe maintenance workshop.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of an NVQ Level 3 in Heating and Ventilation Industrial and Commercial installation or the equivalent level of practical experience. They will have an excellent knowledge and understanding of preventive and breakdown maintenance techniques in mechanical trades and environments. Along with good IT skills, they must be be flexible and adaptable, have a willingness to learn and be able to work on their own initiative as well as part of a team. Training on medical gases can be provided if necessary.
