Job description
As the Building Manager for Teville Gate House you will have responsibility for building customer and stakeholder relationships on all aspects of Estates related requirements for the site. You will monitor customer activity to develop an understanding of customer issues, resolving or escalating where appropriate. As part of the Workplace Operations team, you will work with an FM colleague on site, and a wider team based at Croydon Regional Centre, to effectively manage the day to day running of this specialist site.
You will implement Estates related Health and Safety, Incident Control and Business Continuity policy and standards throughout the site by overseeing and leading activities to ensure that the building is able to provide appropriate control measures for HMRC’s policies.
Person specification
Here are some of the things you'll be responsible for as our Building Manager (Worthing)
- Monitor customer activity and develop a strong understanding of customer issues to effectively resolve or escalate building issues as they arise.
- Work alongside FM colleague and Regional Team to effectively manage all building and provider related matters
- Day-to-day responsibility for the business continuity and incident control within the site, overseeing and leading activities to ensure that the building is able provide appropriate control measures in accordance with HMRC's Business Continuity standards
- Provide health & safety advice and support in respect of Estates issues to building users to ensure effective risk assessments are in place, with support from the Regional Centre H&S Manager where appropriate
- To act as lead during an emergency situation and take charge of incident, make decisions, and have instructions followed to ensure the safety of the building occupants.
- Ensure that a fire safety plan is in place and that the building fire safety and emergency procedures fulfil departmental and legal requirements.
- Ensure incident marshal role maintained by Lines of Business (LOB)
- Liaise with and assist the Police, Fire and emergency services and make decisions in the light of information received

Person Specification
Essential Criteria:
- Candidates must demonstrate significant experience of building management or significant experience in building customer and stakeholder relationships.
- Experience in applying Health and Safety policy and standards in the workplace and / or experience in applying Incident Control in a workplace is desirable.
- Previous experience of working within a building management / property profession / Facilities Management discipline is desirable but not essential.
Essential Qualifications:
If not already held, you must be willing to obtain the NEBOSH National General Certificate within 6 months of appointment. Course costs will be covered by HMRC.
For external candidates, obtaining the specified qualification is a condition of passing probation which if not met will result in the termination of your employment contract (dismissal). For internal HMRC candidates or candidates who are existing Civil Servants from another government department, failure to obtain the specified qualification within the required timeframe will result in redeployment to an alternative role within Estates or wider-HMRC.
National Security Vetting
Once in post, the successful candidate will be required to successfully obtain National Security Vetting clearance at Security Check (SC) level. The offer of permanent employment in this role is conditional upon achieving the required level of vetting clearance.
Working Pattern
To achieve our Customer Service ambitions the successful candidate for this vacancy will be expected to work full-time, in a flexible way. This would see staff routinely working Mon-Fri but allow flexibility for evening work up to 8pm and occasional Saturday work in line with business need.
In addition to this, you will need to be available for out of hours ‘On Call’ as needed in order to respond to any incidents.

Selection process details
The Sift
As part of the application process you'll complete a CV and a 500-word personal statement. Please note that your CV and personal statement should be aligned to the person specification within the advert and the Specialist Knowledge & Experience within the role profile.
Sift, Interview Dates and Location
