Driver Essential? Yes. Automatic adapted vehicle for use on duty
Essential: Experience supporting young children with a physical disability, non-smoker/vaper
Desirable: Previous experience working within a family home
Start Date: ASAP
Days & Hours: Monday and Wednesday: 8.30am to 5.30pm plus one weekday PM per week, 3.00pm – 10.00pm (PM shift to be mutually agreed)

About this client/child:
Jacob is 4 years old and lives with his Mummy, Daddy, and 2 ½-year-old brother, He in an engaging, happy, and a bright young chap who loves music, messy play, baking delicious treats, being silly and making some mischief! Jacob sustained a brain injury at birth and as a result, he has cerebral palsy and complex care and medical needs, a visual impairment and receives his fluid, nutrition, and medication via a PEG. Jacob is reliant on others to meet all his care needs. Jacob has difficulties regulating his body temperature and regular monitoring is required to ensure his temperature does not drop to hypothermic levels. He uses a SATS machine during the night and when he is poorly; he can require suctioning and oxygen. Jacob currently supports his communication using switches, and auditory scanning and is going to trial Eye Gaze soon. Although Jacob is currently unable to communicate verbally; he has very good comprehension and can make his own decisions and engage in conversations. Jacob is learning to use a walker, and he loves being able to see around the room properly for the first time and the independence this gives him.

Overview of role:
This role is focused on promoting Jacob’s overall development, communication, independence, and self-help skills and enabling him to access the world around him; he is a determined young lad and loves to learn new skills. The SEN Nanny / Manny will plan fun activities and games, and implement therapy (training provided) in a playful, fun, and creative way. You’ll support Jacob with his personal care, manual handling, monitor his health, administer medication, prepare tube feeds, drive to appointments, therapy sessions, and school, and work in collaboration with Jacob’s parents and his MDT to ensure his care is consistent. This is a dynamic role, you’ll be supporting Jacob at home and in the community, and on the days he can attend school you will have the opportunity to support Jacob during his lessons. On days when Jacob is not feeling 100% himself, he will tend to sleep or have low energy, keep his eyes closed and withdraw from engagement, on such days the role will be more focused on ensuring Jacob is comfortable and he is being monitored closely. The SEN Nanny / Manny will be happy to pitch in as and when required and if time allows, assist with nursery duties and other Jacob-related tasks.

The SEN Nanny / Manny must be physically fit due to the manual handling aspect of the role and the level of physical support Jacob requires. You will bring an empathetic, positive attitude and be passionate about providing excellent and professional care. You must be a driver, confident swimmer, and non-smoker/vaper.
