Are you excited about the opportunities of working across Online, TV and Radio? If so, then this Journalist role is the job for you. BBC South East is focussed on representing communities across our region and you’ll help us deliver for our audiences wherever they are. You’ll be working across Online, TV and Radio. You’ll be writing stories for the BBC News website, helping to curate our social media platforms, helping to put together TV bulletins and planning next day and longer-term multiplatform features and strands. And you’ll be part of an ambitious, driven team who’ll be ready to start helping to tell stories across Online, TV and Radio from day one.
Main ResponsibilitiesYou’ll be working on a range of output across Online, TV and Radio. You’ll be researching, writing, editing and working with our team to tight deadlines. You’ll have a solid news judgement and will understand the importance of social for telling stories and newsgathering. You’ll help us to find stories, fact-check stories and have an ability to look beyond the press release. You’ll help us with our ambition to reach the widest possible audience with our stories by ensuring they are told on all our platforms. There will be a thorough training programme and you’ll be a champion for BBC News’ need for due impartiality and accuracy.
Are you the right candidate?The ideal candidate will be a conscientious self-starter who’ll add energy, ideas and a flair for story-telling. You’ll have previous experience as a journalist in Online, TV and/or Radio and will have first-class news judgement. You’ll have experience of working in news and be able to demonstrate a track record of developing your own stories. You’ll have a knowledge of using social media as both a broadcast medium to tell compelling stories and as a news-gathering tool. You’ll have worked in a busy newsroom. You’ll be able to work effectively as part of a team often to tight deadlines, and build trust and rapport with colleagues across BBC South East and beyond.
