Borders and Trade Consultant
Summary
We are looking for an enterprising, engaging and adaptable person to support clearBorder’s customers in managing their customs, borders and trade processes.
You will gain experience across a wide range of industries and business types as part of a small, supportive and expert team. You will meet a wide variety of challenges, requiring adaptability, good listening and communication skills, self-discipline and excellent organisational abilities.
You will have an interest in all aspects of international trade, with experience in shipping administration or import/export roles, ideally within a consultancy/agency, logistics or manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
We are a small team and will work with you to grow your skills and the role. Your primary responsibilities will be to:
- Receive and respond to incoming enquiries for cB support
- Deliver consulting projects, with the clearBorder team
- Research and analyse problems to provide clear recommendations
- Provide international trade compliance analysis and recommendations
- Deliver on-demand/responsive international trade advice to clients
- Provide ongoing support to clients to:Improve efficiency, reduce risks and support their growth
Ensure effective delivery of trade management practices
- Identify areas for improvement of the cB proposition
- Establish and develop relationships with potential and existing cB clients
You will enjoy a steep learning curve, with our support, and engage with clients from day one.
In addition, you may also be expected to:
- Research answers to unfamiliar topics or niche border challenges (e.g. CITES compliance, hazardous goods or equine movements)
- Develop your understanding of international trade issues
- Support joint events, conferences and roundtables
- Support workshops and other training, remotely or in-person
- Research and analyse international trade and research data
Projects are based on demand and structured according to specialist requirements and client needs. Some example projects include:
- Reviewing customs practices and providing recommendations
- Customs compliance reviews (including SPS & other regulated products)
- Providing recommendations to ensure legal compliance and efficiency
- Explaining border policy and implications in clear jargon-free terms
- Designing bespoke training including content design and structure
Qualifications and Skills
We want to work with interesting, interested people. Most importantly, we are looking for sound advisory skills, excellent written and verbal communication, underpinned by enthusiasm and a keen appetite to learn.
We will help you develop the necessary skills and experience.
Essential:
- Minimum of 5 years of import and export experience, with exposure to shipping, logistics and supply chain management
- Good knowledge of shipping and customs documentation, including customs processes, regulated goods and certification requirements
- Excellent written, verbal and online communication skill, reflecting the company style: personal, engaging, transparent and honest
- Able to interpret requirements relating to a broad range of industries, including e.g. food/animal/plant products or export controlled goods
- Ability to present clear, commercially-focused recommendations, based on understanding of client requirements
- Adaptable, organised, methodical and analytical. Able to support a client with classification one day and research HMRC guidance the next
- Strong computer literacy, including MS365 and Google applications
Desirable:
- Strong desire to learn and share knowledge
- Knowledge/experience of one or more specialist areas is an advantage:Food/animal/plant (SPS) controls

Salary and Benefits
- £30 - 45K pa (pro-rata) depending on experience
- Ideally ±3 days/week initially. We are open to full-time possibilities

Salary: £30,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
