We are Cambridge University Press & Assessment, a world-leading academic publisher and assessment organisation and a proud part of the University of Cambridge.

We are looking for a Bookseller to work in our prestigious city centre Bookshop, promoting and selling our titles to a broad base of customers. In the role of Bookseller you'll work one weekend day per week, following a rota, with other ad hoc work during the week. It's important to have availability both during the week and at weekends as required, to meet the needs of the business.

About the role

The Role

  • To be available to work on one weekend day per week, as per an advance rota, but mixing Saturday and Sunday, throughout the year.
  • To serve customers at the till, giving excellent customer service and handling money accurately.
  • Help customers find books, using in-house and other internet search engines as necessary. To advise customers, even when the book isn't a CUP&A title.
  • Give general tourist advice to visitors, as requested, even when not part of the Bookshop's business, in order to give a wonderful impression of the Press to all.
  • To assist with pricing and shelving of books on the shop floors.
  • Dusting and general tidying of the stock and shelves, checking books are in alphabetical order, and in correct sections.
  • Help restock books each day at 3pm, taking stock cards to the basement, retrieving books, pricing and reshelving them.
  • Ensure book and other displays are tidy and well stocked.
  • Replenish merchandise as required.
  • Answer phone and emails.

About you

This role requires excellent customer service and communication skills, and you must be numerate. You will be comfortable in an academic environment, and able to work well in a team.

Prior experience in Bookselling or retail would be an advantage, but training will be given.
