Job purpose
The Junior Bookkeepers is responsible for providing basic bookkeeping services, either directly to the clients or in support of a senior bookkeeper. Our current goal is to fill positions funded under the Canada Summer Jobs grant; the position is temporary (9 weeks) with the possibility of extension.
Duties and responsibilities
- Post Accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions per client receipts or statements
- Verify entries recorded to correct expense, revenue, asset or liability accounts
- Reconcile Bank, Credit Card, Lines of Credit or Loan Accounts per statements
- Prepare month end reports per client sheets
- Enter year end adjusting entries from accountants & confirm that trial balances match.
- Efficiently process basic payroll, up to XX employees in accordance with federal & provincial legislation.
- Prepare ROEs as requested
- Prepare filings for Canada Revenues Agency as follows:
- GST
- Payroll remittances
- Corporate tax installments
- Basic administrative tasks, including answering the phones, filing paperwork, completing mail-outs.
Qualifications
- We welcome students in an accounting or bookkeeping program, or someone with 1 to 2 year(s) experience in Administration with some bookkeeping exposure.
- Must be able to handle confidential information in an ethical and professional manner.
- Familiar with Microsoft office applications including Excel, Word & Outlook
- Strong Work Ethic and a positive team attitude.
- Highly conscientious, with an energetic and mature approach to his or her work.
- Must be able to pass a Criminal & Credit background check.
Working conditions
Junior bookkeepers work mostly out of Preferred Client Services offices. They may be expected to accompany a senior bookkeeper to a client’s office to assist. Some evening attendance at business promotional events may be required.

Part-time hours: 24-40 per week
Salary: $15.00-$20.00 per hour
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift

Experience:
- QuickBooks: 1 year (preferred)
- Bookkeeping: 1 year (preferred)
