WHAT TO EXPECT
What do we do at BIW Pilot Plant?
We at Body in White Pilot Operations are responsible for the quality and delivery of new models (BIW) for both JLR vehicles as part of the Verification Build process (VB). The assembled body shells enable test work that supports engineering with a successful launch into production, while verification of manufacturing intent processes and designs support later stages of manufacturing launch.
We are also responsible for reworking pre-production vehicles/panels using engineering drawings and modification requests. As vehicles will be used for critical testing and driven on public roads, there is a high standard of quality required from these reworks.
WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
- Prototype Body manufacture, riveting or spot welding.
- Sheet metal assembly and fabrication
- Manufacture of jigs, fixtures, and templates.
- Use of measuring equipment including manual Coordinate measuring machines.
- Marking out operations.
- Panel reworks.
- Developing in-process containments.
- Review manufacturing processes.
- Raise/solve issues
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- A time Served or have completed apprenticeship with indentures.
- Well-developed Sheet Metalwork skills across a range of activities.
- Prototype experience would be an advantage
- Ability to plan workload to maximise efficiency.
- Ability to work well within a team
- Motivated with a desire to continuously learn and improve
- Able to read engineering drawings to either fabricate or modify panels to strict tolerances working on their own.
- Capable of leading a team in delivering assemblies using a process and various joining technology’s as part of a build plan.
- Capable of identifying and escalating issues found as part of process.
- Helps to develop process improvements that raise standards for safety, quality and timely delivery.
