What you’ll do
You will join a global biotransformation team that provides scientific leadership and supports our diverse portfolio including small molecules, PROTACs, antibody drugs conjugates (ADCs) and nanomedicines. The qualified candidate will work alongside with our DMPK team in Boston (US), maintaining close collaboration within the global department. The position is based in Cambridge UK.
Accountabilities
Delivering biotransformation studies to assess metabolic pathways of molecules including weak-spot identification, structural elucidation of metabolites and assessment of bioactivation.
Delivering in vitro/in vivo biotransformation studies to support drug candidate selection and regulatory submissions.
Participating in validating cutting-edge analytical methodologies to support this core function.
Authoring technical reports, peer-reviewed publications, and oral presentations.
Minimum Requirements – Education, Experience and Capabilities
first degree in Analytical Chemistry/Biochemistry/Biology/Pharmacology ideally followed by PhD or experience as biotransformation / Met-ID / analytical scientist.
Extensive experience and expertise in several of the following:
Structural elucidation through the generation and interpretation of high resolution mass spectra and UV spectra and being a speaking partner to the NMR specialists.
Experience of working with Thermo scientific FT orbitrap mass spectrometers (Q-Exactive, Orbitrap Fusion) would be advantageous.
LC-MS method development and problem solving
Understanding of drug metabolism and how this may affect structural compound design and risk assessment for drug candidates is desirable but not essential
Ability to design and ideally conduct in-vitro experiments for metabolite identification studies (Met-ID) is desirable, but training will also be provided for the suitable candidate.
Excellent interpersonal skills that lead to successful collaborative work-relationships
