About us:
The Doctors Laboratory (TDL) is the largest and most successful independent pathology organisation in the UK.
Our purpose is to deliver medically-led diagnostics, innovation, value and long-term investment to healthcare. With our core laboratory based at The Halo Building in London, we also have an expanding site in Manchester as well as smaller hospital based laboratories across the country. We maintain rigorously high standards of quality, whilst also delivering efficiencies to healthcare through careful workforce planning, pioneering technology and significant investment in infrastructure and IT.
About the role:
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist to join the Pathology Team at Circle Ridgeway (Swindon). This is a small but strategically located laboratory within the Circle Healthcare Group of hospitals.
The laboratory has the benefit of a multi-discipline repertoire in a moderately paced environment, which would appeal to specialist staff in one discipline looking to expand their knowledge base in a laboratory with time to do so.
Working hours are between weekdays 8.30am to 7pm on rotation, with On Call shifts from home shared between all staff, and paid as additional to 37.5 hours.
This offers a good work/life balance for staff.
The successful candidate will participate in the routine processing of all pathology (Haematology, Biochemistry, Transfusion) specimens and issue of blood components with the other BMS and MLA staff to ensure a smooth workflow, and ensure that for each sample the appropriate requested investigations are performed in a timely manner and to ensure that specialised and urgent specimens are appropriately dealt with.
It is desirable for the successful candidate to have suitable experience in blood transfusion and will be required to take part in on call rota from home (training to be given in all disciplines where required).
The role offers opportunity to develop additional quality control/assurance skills and responsibilities, health and safety practices, and various other internal and external training avenues.
Being part of the TDL regional labs group, staff are supported by and contribute to the other TDL regional labs functions in sharing input into troubleshooting, training, peer auditing, presenting training sessions and supporting company projects.
At TDL we offer a variety of excellent staff benefits including:
  • Training and development opportunities – including the funding of Undergraduate and Masters Degrees and IBMS Specialist Portfolios for Biomedical Scientists
  • Annual performance related salary review
**• No banding restrictions: **As we are a private company we are not restricted by salary bandings and so are able to negotiate appropriate salaries based on experience. This also means that annual salary reviews do not hit a band ceiling
  • Discounted gym membership – we have a corporate gym membership scheme with Better Gyms
  • Cash healthcare plan – cash back on a variety of healthcare costs including dentist and opticians
  • Sick Pay Entitlement – 5 paid days in the first year of employment, 20 days thereafter
