Hours: Full time - Mon-Fri 08:30-17:00

Pay rate: Day £20.76

Are you an experienced and registered Biomedical Scientist? Do you have an all-round knowledge of hospital procedures? Are you available to start immediately in a new role?

NHS Professionals have an exciting opportunity for a registered Biomedical Scientist, with experience within Haematology & Blood Transfusion, to support our client trust. You will be responsible for accurately and safely providing necessary care to patients engaging with the service in the Trust. You will maintain key relationships with co-workers and other health care professionals across the Trust to ensure an effective service.

The John Radcliffe Hospital (JR) is Oxfordshire's main accident and emergency site. The JR provides acute medical and surgical services including trauma, intensive care and cardiothoracic services. It is situated in Headington, about three miles east of Oxford city centre. It is the largest of the Trust's hospitals, covering around 66 acres.

The John Radcliffe site also houses many departments of Oxford University Medical School, is home to the George Pickering Education Centre and base for most medical students who are trained throughout the Trust.

RESPONSIBLE FOR:

Analyses potentially infectious samples using a range of highly specialised laboratory procedures, by either manual or automated techniques, to produce results of a quality consistent with excellent patient care. Undertakes these duties in all areas of Haematology and Blood Transfusion.

Matches samples with request forms and inputs patient and test information into the laboratory computer system, requiring complete accuracy.

Exercises individual skills through the observation and interpretation of clinical material or data, which may include therapeutic drug monitoring.

Completes the work process by the verification and validation of results and report generation. This involves the interpretation of clinical data and requires in-depth theoretical knowledge.

Ensures efficient use and maintenance of resources, is aware of stock levels and rotation, storage conditions, batch numbers and expiry dates, thus ensuring the viability of the reagents and/or blood products used.

Exercises own initiative and works in co-operation with other staff members to ensure that the workload is processed in a timely and efficient manner.

To be successful in applying for this role you will need:

Existing knowledge of Telepath in Transfusion and Sysmex equipment is desirable.

HCPC Registration or equivalent is essential.

Experience within Haematology and Blood Transfusion is essential.
