Job description
About the role:
As a Lead Biomedical Scientist, you will participate in all aspects of providing a histopathology service including specialist analytical testing on a range of biological samples. You will also line manage a number of Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLAs) and Laboratory Scientists (LS) staff members.
Your main responsibilities as a Lead Biomedical Scientist:
- Report to the Deputy Laboratory Manager, with whom you will support and maintain high levels of communication
- You will be responsible for processing patient samples in good time and will ensure that service standards for reporting results are achieved
- You will be expected to prioritise your own workload and manage the workload of the more junior members of the team who you will supervise, mentor, develop and support the staff that they line manage
- BSc or equivalent in a biological discipline
- Registration as a Biomedical Scientist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- Practical experience working in a pathology laboratory
- Experience in cytological techniques
- Team and staff management
- Laboratory bench skills
