Job description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Bioinformatics Scientist to join the BBSRC Institute Strategic Programme, “Green Engineering” at Rothamsted Research. This post will join a multidisciplinary team exploiting an understanding of genetic intervention and metabolic regulation to deliver high value plant products and germplasm for health, nutrition, and a more sustainable future.
The postholder will mainly work in close collaboration with lab-based scientists as a key member of the ‘Engineering Sustainable Phenolics’ programme team, using bioinformatics approaches for integrated analysis of large genetic, genomic and metabolite data sets. This position also offers an excellent opportunity to work with a broader range of research groups through the team’s role in providing sequencing data and genomic analysis to other projects and collaborators.
The successful applicant will have an excellent track record in the analysis of large, population-level sequencing data sets (based on both short and long reads), mainly in the areas of (pan)genome assembly and diversity analysis, RNA-seq, and variant analysis. A good knowledge of statistical genetics would be an advantage, as would some experience in integrated multiomic analysis.
Located at our Harpenden site, this is a full-time fixed term appointment at Grade D until 31 March 2028. The role is available for immediate start and offers a salary in the range of £29,842 – £32,315 per annum. Some remote working may be possible.
Closing date for applications is 11 September 2023 with interviews expected to be held 25-27 September.
