Position Description
QIAGEN Manchester is a world leading center for molecular diagnostic applications, expanding and enhancing the delivery of life improving diagnostic systems for existing and emerging medical needs focusing on personalized healthcare in infectious disease and oncology.
We currently have a fantastic opportunity for a Bioinformatician within the Molecular Assay Development team working alongside a team of highly experienced Bioinformaticians from around the world. The primary role of the successful candidate will be to contribute to the growing success of the Molecular Assay Development teams.
Key responsibilities:
- Development and documentation of bioinformatics tools for the improvement of processes in support of molecular assay development
- Support the planning and coordination of studies for themselves and small teams including writing protocols and reviewing and approving documents
- Ensure adherence to design control procedures and to the required quality and regulatory standards
- Analyse, troubleshoot and present complex datasets in collaboration with laboratory teams
- Become a knowledge expert for Bioinformatic workflows; coaching and mentoring colleagues to ensure development of a learning environment
Position Requirements
BSc (or higher) in Bioinformatics or another relevant field, or a minimum of 1 year’s employment experience in a commercial bioinformatics position
- Experience in the analysis of genomics data (NGS and/or PCR) and knowledge of human genetics, genomics and/or infectious disease
- Good working knowledge of, and experience, programming in Python
- Experience in R would be desired
- Experience in HTML and/or version control software would be beneficial
- Knowledge of core bioinformatics tools and relevant bioinformatics databases (dbSNP, COSMIC, etc.), and a basic knowledge of statistics is expected
