Main Purpose of Job
Responsible for all operations within the plant when on shift. Managing the Safe Operations of the Production plant to manufacture the production volumes required by the business. Monitoring of plant equipment and responding accordingly to any faults. Management of the control of work (PTW) system.
Deputise for Team Leader as required.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Operational Activities
- Ensure maximum plant utilisation by appropriate prioritising and allocation of tasks.
- Monitor plant DCS system and respond accordingly to process conditions and alarms to maintain the plant within its safe operating window.
- Ensure quality checks are carried out accurately and all required data is recorded as required.
- Use SOPs to ensure the plant is operated as specified. Highlight deviations from standard.
- Liaise closely with other plant personnel to report on progress, ensure all outstanding issues are addressed and highlight potential problems.
- Carry out Preventative Maintenance on plant equipment as required in a timely manner.
- Advise, coach and train operators where required.
- Maintain an awareness of operator performance and provide effective feedback to operators and Production Specialist and Plant Manager.
- Actively promote a team-working environment.
- Ensure all equipment is kept in good condition and stored correctly.
- Management of the Feedstock, Chemicals and Product tank farm as required.
- Ensure departmental housekeeping is of a high standard.
- Occasional Lab analysis work involving tests of on-site materials to ensure effective process control and measurement.
Health and Safety
- Ensure a thorough knowledge of your Health, Safety and Environmental responsibilities.
- Management of the ISSOW system.
- Planning and Managing Process Isolation plans in line with the Argent PTW process for all intrusive maintenance tasks.
- Always wear Personal Protective Equipment as required. Take responsibility for your own PPE ensuring appropriate storage and care.
- Always strive to work in a manner safe to yourself and others and report any hazards immediately.
- Ensure all staff and visitors operates in compliance with Safety regulations
- Full responsibility for the safety of team members
- Actively participate in addressing Safety, Health and Environmental issues affecting the production areas, ensuring the relevant S, H&E checks are carried out.
- Full knowledge of the Plant Emergency Procedures and associated responses are required

Qualifications/ Knowledge & Experience
Qualifications
- A HNC qualification (or equivalent) in an engineering or science discipline is desirable or completion of a recognised Apprenticeship scheme.
Specific Knowledge, Experience & Skills
- Previous experience working in a process plant is required; Process, Chemical background
- Previous experience of working at Senior Operator level would be advantageous
- Previous supervisory or team management experience would be useful; experience of shift working/operation would be desirable
- Knowledge and understanding of current legislation and compliance, i.e. IPCC, EA, HSE would be useful
