Job Description


The Bid Manager will support the strategic pursuit of opportunities by providing bid leadership, support and challenge alongside processes and tools. They will promote / champion best bidding practice not only within the bid team but across the EWE business, leading by example. They will support capture managers to plan for, develop and submit winning bid responses that meet client requirements, whilst also showcasing the additional value that AECOM can add (the ‘so what’).

Role specific responsibilities include:

  • Ensure the bid governance process is followed and bid codes are set up prior to a kick off
  • Support pre-bid planning including facilitating capture planning and win strategy sessions
  • Using Microsoft Teams as the primary bid management platform for collaboration and efficiency. Ensure it is used consistently across all opportunities
  • Review all client documents prior to a bid kick off meeting. Understand clients’ requirements for submission
  • Plan and manage a bid from the outset to closure, being fully engaged with every element
  • Promote bid management tools throughout the duration of the bid
  • Work closely with technical bid managers, executive sponsors and end market teams to agree key deliverables and manage a strategically planned programme through to successful submission. You will lead and facilitate efficient communication and collaboration to produce the deliverables within agreed timescales
  • Identify and manage resources within the E&GE Work Winning Team during the bidding process, under the direction of the Bid Team Lead.
  • Take the lead on the production of the submission, ensure that it is in keeping with corporate guidelines. This includes:
    • The structure and design of the documents
    • Design of graphics
    • Format of case studies
    • Readability of responses
  • Be a competent bid writer able to create, re-write or polish bid content. This includes being able to identify when responses do not meet client requirements and supporting the author to improve ahead of review
  • Challenge existing processes and embrace new ways of working that improve how we deliver successful bids
  • Oversee the overall progress of bids, initiating corrective action if required to ensure the bid is submitted on time
  • Where required collaborate with work winners in other parts of the company or other companies (eg. as part of a joint venture)
  • Drive continuous improvement by harvesting model answers for storage on our bid knowledge hub, conducting Lessons Learned sessions and influencing bidding behaviours by sharing best practice and coaching colleagues.

  • Collaboration: Develop effective relationships with internal stakeholders, helping to grow individual and team credibility. When managing a bid, promote collaborative working practices to ensure no part of the bid effort is isolated.
  • Champion for improvements: Support the ongoing development and improvement of our work winning processes and tools, and champion them across EWE. Effectively deploy bid management tools and techniques in keeping with work winning processes and procedures.
  • Communicating effectively: Be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Support and lead bid development workshops for the creation of capture plans, win themes and answer planning.
  • Leading and managing others: As a minimum, the bid manager will be the ‘hub’ that links all the moving parts of a bid, managing and motivating the bid team to achieve milestones within the bid programme. Maintain confident control of all bid content and be prepared to challenge and manage the team positively. Promote a culture of sharing knowledge, insights and learning.

Desired qualifications and attributes:

  • Degree in a relevant discipline is desirable
  • APMP Foundation level is desirable
  • 3+ years demonstrable bid management experience (preferably in a similar environment)
  • Understands the bidding process and can effective bid management and writing skills.
  • Excellent communicator.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Thrives in a busy environment.
  • Ability to prioritise workload.
  • Ability to motivate a team (previous line management experience desirable).

Technical competencies

  • Competent with all Microsoft Office programmes including Microsoft Teams which is used as the collaborative platform for all bids.
  • Experienced working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud suite of packages, in particular InDesign and Acrobat is desirable.
  • Experience of using CRM systems such as Salesforce Lighting.
