Bibliographic Metadata Assistant, ONIX (9-month FTC) London, England

Penguin Books Limited
Full Time London, England 26500 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

Are you inquisitive about data and how we use it? Are you organised and do you thrive in a fast-paced environment? We’re looking for a Bibliographic Metadata Assistant to join our Bibliographic Metadata & ONIX team on a 9-month Fixed Term basis.

The opportunity

Reporting to the Head of ONIX, in this varied administrative role you’ll be providing essential support to the ONIX team and wider Bibliographic department. In this role, you’ll get to develop working relationships with colleagues across the business: primarily the Editorial, Sales and Production teams.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Creating a schedule of front list titles needed to be archived; actioning by producing and uploading book PDFs to the Biblio3 DAM system
  • Working closely on the distribution of the Penguin Random House backlist catalogue and back covers to the key retailers and data aggregators
  • Liaising with Production and Art departments to ensure files are supplied to schedule
  • Liaising with external suppliers and customers, dealing with requests and issues; for example, reporting and managing bug fixes
  • Managing the preview programme and Digital Archive through the creation and manipulation of the ‘Search Inside The Book’ feature and other digital assets
  • Supporting ONIX colleagues in managing the day-to-day ONIX related queries as required and providing support to other members of Bibliographic team, as required.

What you’ll bring

As you’ll be working with colleagues across the business, you’ll need to be highly organised, self-motivated and be able to manage deadlines and shifting priorities. You’ll have excellent attention to detail and a good understanding of data entry. A passion for metadata and the world of books would be advantageous.

Previous experience is not necessary as training will be given, but we’re looking for someone with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and an eagerness to learn our publishing and distribution systems, and you’ll need to be able to process data accurately.

How to apply

Please apply with your CV and Cover Letter by 23:59 on Tuesday 16th May.

What you can expect from us:

Salary: The salary for this role will be £26,500 per annum.

PRH is currently experimenting with hybrid working and involving colleagues across the business to shape our future ways of working. The needs of our teams and individuals are different, so we’re not taking a one-size-fits-all approach. For this role, there are in-person team meetings taking place every Tuesday. The exact balance of office to remote working will depend on the nature of your role and team needs, and we are open to discussing this through the recruitment process.

Our employees are the heart of our business. We have a range of benefits to reflect our commitment to our employees, some of which are:

  • 27 days paid holiday entitlement in year one (plus bank holidays), increasing a day each year up to 30 days
  • Medical cover
  • Life assurance
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Discounted gym membership
  • Generous pension scheme
  • Summer working hours (role dependent)
  • Volunteering policy and charity matching
  • Employee Assistance programme
  • Mentoring programme
  • Extended gender neutral parental leave
  • Access to books and eBooks across Penguin Random House UK
  • Each site has trained mental health first aiders

Our creativity is inspired by different perspectives, so we want our culture to be one of belonging, where everyone feels welcome and where differences are celebrated.

As a Disability Confident Committed organisation, we're part of the offer an interview scheme. This is where disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria for the role can opt in to get to the next recruitment stage. There may be some situations where volume of applicants means we can't take all eligible candidates to interview.

We want to make sure disabled applicants can be their best at each step of the recruitment journey.
