Job Description

  • Provide technical leadership to other BI team members to deliver high quality business intelligence

solutions to defined timescales

  • Responsible for managing the day-to-day workload amongst the other BI team members to optimise

customers satisfaction

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of bespoke business intelligence solutions.
  • Work closely and collaborate with business analysts, architects and business users on the definition and planning of business intelligence and software projects.
  • Take ownership of the quality of code you produce and that of the other developers in the team.
  • Take ownership of reporting and data warehouse code and ETL processes in production and non-

production environments.

  • Adequately document all owned processes.
  • Work towards becoming an SME on our data.
  • Provide high level estimates for projects to guide prioritisation and resource assignment
  • Research new data related technologies so that informed decisions can be made on the BI technology

strategy.

  • Work with the DBA to review all database schema and code changes as part of the standard development cycle
  • Ensure that BI demand coming into the team is dealt with appropriately and that there is a process in

place for escalating changes that are beyond just BI.

  • Manage the workload of the team, monitoring progress and addressing issues as required.
  • Work with appropriate Product Owner, business & IT stakeholders to understand overall organisation priorities and contribute to sprint planning accordingly.
  • Assist in critical support cases where needed.
  • Advocate Agile and DevOps best practice adoption so that we move towards CI/CD
  • Consult with internal and external customers and assist with pre-sales as required


Role Requirements E=essential, P=preferred

E - Ability to successfully lead, motivate and develop others

E - Excellent hands on data oriented technical skills, specifically:

  • SQL Server and TSQL

  • SQL Server Integration Services

  • SQL Server Reporting Services

  • XML and JSON

E - Expert in complex query writing

E - Expert in building ETL processes

E - Sound understanding of relational and data warehouse database design concepts

E - Excellent knowledge of schema design and relational database querying

E - Excited by technology, with up to date understanding of latest technologies

E - Desire to learn new technologies

E - Proven track record in working successfully as an individual or as part of a team to deliver software

solutions to meet customer needs

E - Experience of code reviews and TSQL coding standards

E - Excellent oral and written communication skills including problem solving, prioritizing and interpersonal relationship building.

E - Proven ability to facilitate group discussion and build consensus


P - Exposure to working on agile methodologies and using agile tools

P - Experience with other storage technologies such as:

  • Elasticsearch, Azure Search
  • Cosmos DB
  • Azure Table, Blob and Queue storage
  • SQL Server Analysis Services
  • SQL Server Data Tools/Visual Studio
  • Power BI or equivalent
  • Azure SQL Database
  • Data Factory
