The M&S Food Data Science and Analytics team was set up in January 2021, bringing together five data and analysis teams, design to provide end-to-end analytics support to the business. The current transformation programme that M&S is undertaking is underpinned by improved digital and data capabilities – we have already had a significant commercial impact on the business but are looking to grow further to exploit further opportunities. Our long-term goal is to embed high quality insight, driven by machine learning and business intelligence, across the business.
As a BI Developer in the team, you will be part of the Reporting function, but will work in multi-disciplinary teams of analysts, data specialists, and colleagues from the business. Using your proven background of delivering BI solutions you will lead projects delivering new efficient and sustainable solutions, scoping the project with colleagues from the business right from inception, providing technical leadership during the design phase, project managing the rollout, and the working with our Change Management function to measure the commercial and operational impact. You will support the function lead by playing a technical and project delivery role when landing fresh solutions.
Key Accountabilities & Measures
- Scope and design BI/reporting solutions with business users
- Project manage the construction of BI/reporting solutions to support Food business operations as part of wider transformation projects
- Coordinate testing, training, and rollout of solutions
- Work with Change Management/Finance teams to measure impact of solutions and report to business
- Provide technical leadership on the appropriate technologies for building and deployment of solutions
- Plan and provide daily operational support to ensure solutions are available to business users
- Champion technical best practices through the Reporting function, Food Data Science and Analytics team, and wider Digital and Data community
- Support Reporting function in cloud migration programme
Key Skills
- Experience leading the scoping, designing, and delivery of reporting/BI solutions
- Data visualisation/user experience design skills
- Experience testing solutions and measuring impact, either independently or by collaborating with other analysts
- Strong SQL knowledge
- Advanced Power BI
- Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate)
- Advanced Excel
- Experience using Microsoft Azure, Databricks, or Synapse
- Knowledge of Python or R
- Experience using Microsoft Azure, Databricks, or Synapse
- Experience using version control software such as Git (GUI or command line)
- Food retail or FMCG experience
