Behaviour Mentor, Basildon, Essex
Salary: £19,000- £24,000 (depending on experience)
Time: 8.30am-4.30pm
A ‘Good’ rated alternative provision in Basildon, Essex, require a full-time Behaviour Mentor to help support pupils with challenging behaviours, that need extra support academically and socially. The school supports secondary aged pupils (14-19) that have been removed from mainstream school or are at risk of exclusion.
The school has an excellent behaviour/ mentoring programme, and the processes are in place to best support their young people. SLT is experienced and supportive. The school also provides amazing CPD and career progression opportunities.

Behaviour Mentor Job summary:
· To set standards of effective practice and work with the whole staff team in managing and modifying the behaviour of children and supporting them in their learning.
· Supporting pupils 1:1 on positive behaviour interventions non-engagement in learning, developing personalized mentoring programmes to help young people remove the barriers to learning.
· Modelling appropriate social skills and supporting students in making the right choices. Helping to promote a positive learning environment.
· Helping with conflict resolution, writing incident reports, safeguarding reports, and speaking with parent/carers and outside agencies.
· Security checks, breaking up any fights, patrolling and manual handling when required (full training provided)
Suitable Behaviour Mentor candidates:
· Previous experience of working effectively with young people in a school or youth work environment.
· Physically fit and confidence with conflict resolution and challenging behaviour situations.
· Confidence in managing challenging behaviour and ability to resolve issues, showing initiative and personality to build professional relationships with young people which enable escalating situations to be diffused.
· Excellent written, IT and verbal communication skills and an ability to work effectively with schools, parents, young people, and other agencies.
