Job Introduction

The BBC Apprentice Hub is working in partnership with companies across the West Midlands to create opportunities for local talent. You will complete your apprenticeship in placements within our partner companies across the Midlands.

We’re looking for ambitious, motivated and talented individuals to take their first step into the world of work and join one of our partner companies as an apprentice. Our mission is to create opportunities across the creative and digital sector for people in the West Midlands. Placements will be with our partner employers across the West Midlands, and you will have dedicated support from our award-winning BBC academy team. You will gain real world experience and get paid in the process.

Main Responsibilities

We have several exciting opportunities across our data apprenticeships to join one of our partner companies to undertake your apprenticeship. An apprenticeship requires commitment, self-discipline and you will need to be self-motivated. You will also join our talent pool for other opportunities within our partner companies and will benefit from mentoring, career support and development.

You will have a placement base location; however, this may be subject change as placements can be rotated through different employers if appropriate.

We’re looking for someone with a passion for data, and an interest in new technologies, trends and developments. You will want to gain a further understanding of the value and opportunities of data, and the tools and techniques used when working with data every day. The programme will teach you how data is used and help you to develop the skills you’ll needed to prepare valuable data insights, but a passion and interest is important. We’ll also show you how to visualise data and teach you the art of presenting it as well as ensuring it is high quality, consistent and accurate.

You'll study for a data technician qualification from The Institute of Apprenticeships in Technical Education. You’ll complete specialist modules such as:

  • The Value of Data
  • Future of Learning & Career Pathways in Data
  • Data Sourcing & Integration
  • Data Preparation, Quality & Validation
  • Charts and Data Visualisation
  • Introduction to Python
  • Data Processing with Pandas
  • Introduction to Machine Learning
  • Data Science for Business

To be eligible for this apprenticeship, you must:

  • Be aged 18 by March 2023
  • Maths & English GCSEs or Scottish Standards at 9-4 or A-C equivalent
  • Have the right to work in the UK and been ordinarily resident in the UK, Ireland, or the European Economic Area (EEA) for at least the previous three years before the start of the apprenticeship. Or have obtained either pre-settled or settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme and have been ordinarily in the EEA, Gibraltar, or the UK for at least the previous three years before the start of the apprenticeship.
  • Have a permanent base within the region.

This opportunity is only available to those that live in the following areas: Black Country, Birmingham, Solihull, Coventry, and Warwickshire. If you're based outside of this area, you will not be eligible for this scheme.

  • Duration: Various contract lengths (between 15 &18 months depending the level of the scheme)
