Job description
The Argyle Arms,
Located in the Preston Park area of Brighton, just a few minutes walk from the vibrant Preston Circus & London Road area, you will find our little back street pub tucked away on the corner of Argyle Road & Campbell Road.
We are recruiting one part time bartender, one will cover 18-24 hours per week, with an immediate start available.
Raising the profile of the pub. Pop Catering LTD took over The Argyle Arms two years ago, after a full refurbishment on the interior and decorative work to the exterior the pub now attracts a quirky, friendly customer base. Both locals and visitors to the city now enjoy the pub year-round.
In previous years the pub was very tired and neglected. Freshened up and offering something for everyone, attracting a whole new client base. Now offering modern craft and premium mainstream taps, traditional cask ales, a vast vegan wine list, expertly made cocktails and an extensive gin & whisky range.
We are currently planning regular events for the summer and throughout the rest of the year; live music, quizzes, toads' tournaments, etc.. We are also open to ideas and love our staff to have an input so we always give them the opportunity to make suggestions and work with us on projects.
Previous pub / bar experience is preferred for this role but not entirely essential.
You will work alongside the owners building a strong relationship to assist in the growth of the business.
You will be required to use your own initiative at times, be able to work on your own and as part of the small team.
Responsibilities will vary depending on previous experience. The successful candidate will take part in the general day to day aspects of the pub.
Assisting in the following:
(experience in each of these roles is preferred but not essential).
- The perfect pour (draught pints and cask ale)
- Mixology (or a small amount of cocktail knowledge will suffice)
- Barista trained
- Food service / table service
- General cleaning
- Cellar maintenance, changing kegs and gas
It is our goal to ensure all customers are greeted with a smile, and a warm welcome. All customers are served in a speedy, friendly, professional manor at the bar and ensuring the perfect pour with each and every drink. Ensuring all areas are kept clean, tidy and safe for other staff and customers. Training will be given in all aspects of the job, regardless of experience.
You will work with the small team of staff and sometimes be expected to work alone on a quiet shift. You will liaise with the owners regularly updating them of any issues, low stock or maintenance duties that need to be carried out.
We are looking for a reliable member of staff with good work ethic & initiative, an eye for cleanliness and able to communicate with customers whilst still getting your work done. There is potential for increase in hours and pay rate dependant on a few factors.
We are an "above living wage employer". Regardless of your age the starting pay (after trial periods and training) is currently £10 per hour with opportunity to increase this in future with job retention, reliability and progression.
We put great effort into ensuring the happiness and wellbeing of our staff at all times.
This role could progress to supervisory or potentially managerial with more benefits further down the line. Depending on progression and whether you would be looking to fill either of those roles in future.
