Cocotte Bistro will be a refined yet casual take on an authentic French bistro with a distinctly National Capital lens featuring Executive Chef Stephen La Salle’s classic yet contemporary approach to French bistro cuisine. Cocotte Bistro will also bet on bubbles by the glass, thoughtfully sourced ingredients, social hour specials and sharing items prepared and served en cocotte.
Job Summary: The Barista will provide a superior level of hospitality to all guests, preparing all beverage types from the café and bar, as well as offering and serving food from the available menus. The successful candidate will provide all the correct steps of service, while also preparing and serving hand-crafted beverages to guests in the café, lobby, bar and lounge area and complying with all food and beverage regulations. This position will also prepare all beverages for the dining area/bistro and room service, requisitioned by servers and service staff.
Job Duties
- Serve guests sitting at the bar or in the lounge and café areas
- Warmly greet all guests entering the bistro, seat guests when possible, answer the phone when possible
- Take room service orders and accurately ring them into the POS, deliver room service orders when possible
- Adhere to recipes and follow established standards to ensure consistency in taste, presentation and quality
- Setting up, cleaning and closing the café and bar while maintaining sanitation and coffee bar organization standards; cleaning coffee machines, rotating products, inventory counts, and preparing fresh ingredients
- Preparing juices, drink mixes, garnishes, and stocking the coffee bar to ensure supplies are readily available
- Receiving coffee bean orders; rotating products, recording the inventory received and assisting management to ensure stock and products are always on hand
- Receiving liquor, wine and beer orders; rotating products, recording the inventory received and assisting management to ensure stock and products are always on hand
- Prepare and serve all beverage orders for both café guests and the service bar, according to recipes, standards and established timing
- Interact with guests, assessing their needs and preferences while also making recommendations; greeting all guests approaching the café area, and giving all guests a sincere thank you upon departure
- Handling cash and card transactions, ensuring charges and change are accurate and balancing the till
- Use all equipment, grinders, blenders and tools safely, and in accordance to the provided direction/training
- Practice a very high level of communication and teamwork with fellow employees and management
- Clean designated areas by following checklist procedures and opening or closing routines
- Be continually aware of, and maintain, the highest standards of professionalism by following the established dress code; maintain a professional appearance, demeanor, and attitude at all times
- Protect the health and safety of others by adopting safe work practices and reporting unsafe conditions immediately

Job Requirements
- Smart Serve Certification required
- Ability to effectively communicate in English and French
- Strong interpersonal skills with a passion for hospitality
- Possess a strong work ethic with a desire to achieve team goals
- Ability to prioritize and manage your time during high volume and busy times
- Being physically able to move quickly, bend, and reach throughout your shift; able to stand and walk for long periods of time 8+ hours and lift at least 50 pounds
- Exceptional knowledge of relevant beverages
