barista Oxford, England

Opera Cafe
Full Time Oxford, England 15 - 12.5 GBP HOURLY Today
Job description

When we opened our doors in 2015, we had one simple goal: to bring the wonderful Mediterranean flavours to Oxford. Soon, Opera Cafe was buzzing like a Moroccan souk with the smells and flavours of different cuisines seeping through our streets.

At Opera, we only use local coffee roasters, the best ingredients and everything is prepared freshly for you. In addition to our classic red lentil soup, exceptionally delicious Baklava, and heartwarming mint tea, we keep surprising our guests with new cakes and vegan wrap creations.

Opera wouldn't be the same if it wasn't for the people who come to Opera to discuss quantum physics over Egyptian Koshari (we are still in awe), to share the latest gossip over an Indian Masala latte (oh no, he didn't..), or to read the latest Malcolm Gladwell book (we are huge fans!).

We love Oxford because it brings together a wonderful mix of people from around the world, and with a little bit of turmeric, cumin and coriander, we think we've just made it a teaspoonful better.
Seven years on, with a few redecorations, menu changes, and new faces, we still have one mission: to bring a little bit of the Mediterranean to Oxford.

As a Barista, you will play a pivotal role in creating a positive and memorable coffee shop experience for our valued customers. You'll be responsible for crafting and serving a variety of high-quality coffee beverages, teas, and other specialty drinks. With your warm personality and exceptional customer service skills, you will build lasting relationships with our guests, turning them into regular patrons and ambassadors of our brand.

Key Responsibilities:

Coffee Crafting: Prepare and serve a diverse range of coffee-based beverages, including espressos, lattes, cappuccinos, mochas, and more. Master the art of coffee extraction, milk frothing, and latte art to create visually appealing and delicious drinks.

Customer Service: Greet customers with a friendly smile, provide product recommendations, and take orders accurately and efficiently. Engage in genuine conversations with customers, ensuring they feel welcomed and appreciated throughout their visit.

Cash Handling: Process cash and card transactions promptly and accurately using our point-of-sale system. Ensure that the cash register is balanced at the end of each shift.

Store Maintenance: Restock inventory and notify management of any supply needs and maintain a clean and organized workspace, following food safety and hygiene standards at all times.

Product Knowledge: Stay informed about the coffee beans and blends we offer, including their origin, flavor profiles, and brewing methods. Educate customers about our coffee products when asked.

Upselling and Promotions: Proactively promote seasonal beverages, limited-time offers, and loyalty programs to enhance the overall customer experience and drive sales.

Requirements:

Passion for Coffee: An unwavering enthusiasm for coffee and its culture, with a desire to continuously expand your knowledge and skills in the field.

Customer-Focused: Excellent interpersonal skills with a friendly and approachable demeanor. Ability to connect with customers, understand their preferences, and provide exceptional service.

Team Player: Collaborative and able to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment, supporting colleagues and contributing to a positive work atmosphere.

Attention to Detail: Diligent in following recipes and ensuring beverages are prepared to the highest quality standards. Ability to multitask and maintain composure during busy periods.

Prior Experience: While prior experience as a barista is an advantage, we welcome applications from passionate individuals with no previous experience in the role, as we provide comprehensive training.

Join our team of coffee enthusiasts and take your passion for coffee to new heights. If you're ready to embark on a rewarding journey in the world of specialty coffee and customer service, we invite you to apply and be a part of our coffee shop's success story.
