Dark Horse Espresso Bar is a pioneer in the Toronto specialty coffee community and has become a spot attracting those who like great coffee, handmade pastries, and a comfortable environment. The inspiration for Dark Horse came from a desire to create an environment where people would feel a sense of belonging. A place where they could come to relax, reflect or socialize, and re-energize with seriously great coffee. Over the past 15 years, we have evolved from one beloved neighbourhood cafe to a collection of six shops in vibrant neighborhoods across the city.

About The Position
Dark Horse is undergoing a renewal and refocusing on coffee quality across our ecosystem. A Dark Horse Barista has a passion for coffee, community and enjoys working as part of a team. Candidates must possess a strong business sense, natural affinity for service and have outstanding emotional intelligence and soft-skills. The successful candidate will be excited at the chance to grow a coffee focused hospitality business and embrace the challenges that come along with it.
General Responsibilities
- Support coffee menu planning and recipe development across the entire Dark Horse ecosystem
- Continue to enhance collaboration with our partners at Detour Coffee Roasters
- Represent Dark Horse within the Toronto specialty coffee community
- Act with integrity, honesty and knowledge that promote the culture, values and mission of Dark Horse
- Follow health and safety policies and provide management with feedback on how we can improve our processes to best ensure safety of all staff and customers
- Support all product and services at Dark Horse cafe including food, pastry and merchandising
- Demonstrate strategic understanding of food service operations by providing recommendations and executing (when necessary) ordering, inventory management, queue management, and more
- Provide exceptional customer service by following standards and anticipating customer and store needs by constantly evaluating environment and customers for cues
- Follows all operational policies and procedures, including those for cash handling and safety and security during each shift
- Taking food and beverage orders using POS system (when necessary)
- Maintains regular and consistent attendance and punctuality
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Experience within a specialty coffee program
- Well-developed personal brand and a proven ability to build relationships across an industry or sector; should be an active member of the Toronto specialty coffee community
- A proven executor that has participated the successful growth of food properties
- Comfortable with key hospitality software including POS, scheduling and purchasing systems
- Highly accountable and well-organized, with an ability to oversee a team of staff and prioritize multiple projects effectively
- An insatiable curiosity and willingness to learn, anchored in a constant pursuit of personal development
- Collaborative and innovative consensus builder that solicits 360-degree feedback and can inspire and influence staff, consumers and other stakeholders
- A positive ambassador with strong communication skills and a genuine kindness, thoughtfulness and a sense that the glass is always at least half full

Part-time hours: 20-40 per week
Salary: $16.00-$17.50 per hour
Schedule:

- Every Weekend
- Monday to Friday
- Weekend availability
