ABOUT THE HOSPITAL:
Harley Street Specialist Hospital is an 11,100 square foot, six floor hospital building located in the heart of the Harley Street medical district. We boast the following:
- A full operating suite, recovery bay and six recovery pods on the lower ground floor
- A full operating suite, recovery bay with three beds and a private room on the ground floor
- A minor ops suite (suitable for GA’s), pharmacy and imaging suite on the first floor
- Nine beautiful, newly refurbished consulting rooms throughout the hospital and two treatment rooms
We offer day surgery across a range of specialties, predominantly orthopaedic, plastic, cosmetic and others.
We have a team of specialist consultants on hand to provide expert care for patients seeking treatment in: orthopaedics (knee, hip, shoulder, elbow, hand and wrist, spine); oral maxillofacial; gynaecology; ophthalmology; gastroenterology and urology.
We have surgical first assistant available on site for all our surgeons.
HSSH has a strict inclusion and exclusion policy and we try to treat ASA1/2 patients only. All surgeries tend to be day-case but we are able to accommodate overnight stays.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
To provide high quality, patient centered care under the supervision of qualified staff. To be accountable for your actions and omissions.
In this role you will be an integral part of a team who is committed to delivering the highest quality clinical outcome in the clinical environment, where you will be valued for your skills and expertise
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
- Chaperoning during patients’ consultations, assisting consultants with injections and minor procedures, wound assessment and changing of dressings, removal of casts, venepuncture, PRP preparation
- Covid 19 screening, pre op screening, application of splints/supports/braces and other delegated tasks whilst recognising own limitation
- Assisting the registered nurse with more complicated procedures
- Ensure that blood results are sent to the referring clinician in a timely manner
- Support and observe the patient, reporting to the registered nurse/healthcare professional any changes that might affect the patients’ health and well-being
- Responsible for the cleanliness of the department and surrounding areas before and after clinical activities
- You will be responsible for checking and cleaning the clinical equipment prior to use, reporting any damage or broken equipment
- Be involved in preparing the areas ready for the patients and consultants
- Assist clinical staff and consultants in preparing their equipment and the patient
- You will be aware of your boundaries at work to prevent harm to the patient, understand the term, duty of care and act in the best interest of the patient/client
- Demonstrate knowledge of personal care and related procedures
- Support the maintenance of privacy and dignity
- Support and assist patients with their nutritional/dietary needs including fluid intake
- Work with registered nurses and healthcare professionals to assess patient’s activities of daily living and the care required to promote independence
Health and Safety and Infection control and prevention
- Take reasonable care of the health and safety of themselves and all other persons who may be affected by their acts or omissions at work
- Co-operate with their employer to ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation and the Health and Safety policies and procedures of the Hospital
- To adhere to all Infection prevention and control policies and procedures
- Demonstrate high standards of IPC practice
- Possess an appropriate understanding of their role in the prevention and containment of infection in their area of work. This is part of he potholders professional duty of care, and is a responsibility to themselves, patients, and other members of staff under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
- Preparation and cleaning of patient areas/rooms, cleaning equipment following procedures, safe disposal of soiled linen and tidying of general areas
- Act to protect themselves, as well as making all reasonable efforts to prevent and reduce the risk of infection for their patients, other staff, visitors, and the environment
- Be aware of and implement IPC policies, procedures and guidelines
- Alert managers to any IPC risks or environmental deficits, e.g., standards of cleanliness within the service area that require urgent attention
- Participate in annual mandatory IPC training
- Maintain a clean and safe environment
Responsibility for Financial & Physical Resources:
- Ensure careful use of department equipment; handling of patient valuables; maintain departmental stock and consumables
- Participate in stock control measures
QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Attained GCSE Maths and English (Grades A – C)
- Computer literate in Microsoft Office and any other relevant packagesExperience of working within the Private Healthcare industry desirable
- Experience of having worked in a similar role
- You must have at least 2 years proven phlebotomy experience. Knowledge of the preparation of PRP would be a distinct advantage
- You must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication and proven computer literacy
- Applicants must demonstrate a caring and compassionate manner

- Recognise own level of competence and limitations to ensure safe practice
- Adhere to the Harley Street specialist Hospital uniform policy
- Actively participate in the HSSH appraisal system.

We have put a number of measures in place, to ensure the safety of our staff and also provide routine testing and daily screening. All staff and visitors are required to wear a mask unless exempt. Common surfaces are sanitised regularly.
