The Role:
The Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust brings together staff and services from Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust (SRFT) and The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust (PAT). The NCA FT was formally established on 1 October 2021 and has been working together as a group since 2016.
The Northern Care Alliance Pathology Service is a collaborative between the Northeast Sector (NES) Pathology Service (previously known as Pennine Pathology) and Pathology at Wigan and Salford (PAWS). The service employs more than 600 staff and processes more than 24 million tests each year.
We have long term placement opportunities available for Band 6 Biomedical Scientists available at Salford Royal Hospital specifically providing the following:
· Process specialist Cellular Pathology investigations including the investigation and resolution of anomalous results.
· To communicate with colleagues and clinicians about investigations required, discuss validation processes, explain results to others and provide instructions to various groups of health service staff
· To train, supervise and mentor Biomedical Scientists, trainee Biomedical Scientists and support staff
· Contribute to the review and development of Trust & departmental SOPs, Policies and training documents to ensure the delivery of a safe, patient focused & high-quality service.
· To develop an area of biomedical expertise to deputise for Biomedical section managers
· Maintain registration as a biomedical scientist through continuing to meet the standards of proficiency for safe and effective practice and continuing to meet the HCPC’s standards for continuing professional development.
Skills/Responsibilities:

· HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist
· BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences
· Minimum 2 years post registration laboratory training within cellular pathology
· Specialist knowledge of cellular pathology work procedures
· Evidence of ongoing continuing professional development
