Job description

We are recruiting to the B&NES (Bath & North East Somerset), Wiltshire and Swindon Talking Therapies Services. Applicants should have an IAPT PWP qualification for this role and will be expected to travel across the B&NES, Swindon or Wiltshire area depending on which service they are recruited to.

Please note, currently we are operating a hybrid working approach incorporating remote/home working and working from our bases and some GP surgeries.

The BSW Talking Therapies services are community based primary care psychology services working with our GP partners to provide low and high intensity therapy. Our PWPs and HI therapists offer a mix of telephone, video and face to face appointments to service users. Our integrated working supports close clinical contacts and a team based working environment with other health professionals.

We are looking for qualified PWPs who wish to continue developing their existing skills and provide an outstanding specialist healthcare service to our service users treating common mental health problems. The focus is on high quality assessment and treatments which are carefully planned to offer a structured clinical day. Clinical skills supervision, case management and line management are offered in line with IAPT guidelines with extra duty support available as needed.

We provide services from a range of locations to approximately 1.8 million people living in Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES), Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Swindon, across the county of Wiltshire and in parts of Dorset. The Wiltshire IAPT Service supports flexible working, part time and extended hours which fit in with a modern health care system.

Wiltshire has a great mix of large towns and countryside. It has a wide geographical spread of surgeries and a diverse population of service users which provides variety and difference across the county. The team is sociable and supportive and welcomes new additions within our work bases and out of hours activities.

Clinical:

  • To deliver a minimum of 20 hours a week (pro rate for part-time) of direct clinical work, consisting of assessment and treatment and spanning a variety of formats (1:1, cCBT, courses, telephone, video and face-to-face)
  • To adhere to an agreed activity contract relating to the number of client contacts offered, and clinical sessions carried out per week in order to minimize waiting times and ensure treatment delivery remains accessible and convenient
  • To provide a fast response, stepped-care, primary care psychology service, under supervision to patients of GPs at nominated surgeries
  • To undertake client–centred interviews that identifies areas where the person wishes to see change and/or recovery, and make an accurate assessment of risk to self and others
  • To make decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to the service’s referral protocols and refer unsuitable clients on to the relevant service, or back to the referral agent as necessary, or step-up the person’s treatment to High-Intensity
  • To educate and involve family members and others in treatment as necessary
  • To attend multi-disciplinary meetings relating to referrals or clients in treatment, where appropriate
  • To complete all requirements relating to data collection within the service
  • To keep coherent records of all clinical activity in line with service protocols
  • To work closely with other members of the team ensuring appropriate step-up and step-down arrangements are in place to maintain a stepped care approach
  • To assess and integrate issues surrounding work and employment into the overall therapy process
  • To operate at all times from an inclusive values base which promotes recovery and recognizes and respects diversity
  • To prepare and present clinical information for all patients on their caseload to clinical case management supervisors within the service on an agreed and scheduled basis, in order to ensure safe practice and the clinical governance obligations of the worker, supervisor and service are delivered
  • To respond to and implement supervision suggestions by supervisors in clinical practice
  • To engage in and respond to personal development supervision to improve competencies and clinical practice
  • To liaise with training providers as appropriate
  • To maintain clinical record in line with service guidance
  • To complete IAPT and LTHC clinical measures, patient outcome and patient satisfaction measures in line with service policy
Professional:
  • To participate in the BSW Talking Therapies service business and professional meetings as required
  • To be aware of and comply with all policies, procedures and directives of the Department, Service and Trust
  • To maintain and further develop high standards of psychology practice through co-operative work with other practitioners and psychologists and involvement in professional audit
  • To comply with NHS, AWP and appropriate professional body’s (such as BABCP or BPS) Code of Conduct and Values, as well as procedures and government legislation as it applies to the service
Clinical Governance:
  • To support the Head of Service in the development and implementation of effective Clinical Governance across the Psychology Service
  • To support and participate in multidisciplinary audit in the service
  • To promote the use of effective interventions in the service
  • To participate in the Clinical Governance processes in the service and in the profession
General:
  • To participate in liaison meetings with GPs and other members of the Primary Care Health Teams as appropriate
  • To meet with the link worker from Primary Care Liaison Service as appropriate
  • To train other staff as appropriate
  • To participate in audit and personal review activity as required
  • To enter date on surgery computer and IAPTUS data systems
  • To compile and return statistics and activity levels every month
  • To undertake mandatory and in-house training as might be required to maintain an appropriate level of expertise
  • To participate in individual and peer supervision, both process and case management
  • To participate in the research activities of the service, where required
  • To be aware of and comply with all policies, procedures and directions od the department, service and Trust
  • To contribute to the running and development of the service as agreed with the Head of Service
