Band 5 Radiographer (Full time – Permanent).
The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust is the largest specialist orthopaedic Trust in the UK with a world renowned reputation. We are seeking a highly motivated qualified and experienced radiographer to join our friendly and dedicated team. The successful candidate will be required to rotate through all our sites (Stanmore and Bolsover Street).
Participation in provision of the out of hour’s service is required, as is flexible working to include evening and weekend hours. The post holder will also be involved in the provision of weekdays and weekend on call duties. The Trust accommodates flexible working and part time working
There’s automatic progression onto band 6 pay grade after 18 months provided competencies are met.
The X-ray department has 5 general x-ray rooms (3 at the main site in Stanmore and 2 at Bolsover Street in central London) 1 fluoroscopy unit , 4 portable ward machines, 1 O-arm unit, a DEXA scanner and 13 theatre image intensifiers.
The X-ray department opens at 08:00 and closes at 20:30 Monday to Friday and there’s a reduced service on Saturdays with on- call cover during out of hours. The department is closed on Sundays.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious general radiographer to gain more experience in specialised orthopaedic imaging.
The post holder will mainly work in Outpatients /In-patient general x-ray area, fluoroscopy, theatres and dexa depending on the needs of the department. You will be expected to provide high quality diagnostic images whilst ensuring patient care and safety is paramount.
You will work closely with other members of the team including radiologists, radiographers and assistants and will be involved in the teaching of students and more junior members of staff.
You will be an integral part of the smooth running of the imaging service and communicate effectively with a wide range of staff and patient groups.
You will be expected to manage your workload effectively, applying knowledge and skill to produce high quality images and adapt techniques to meet complex patient requirements.
The RNOH is a leading institution of international reputation in the field of orthopaedics and is a centre of excellence for complex spinal and MSK oncological treatment.
Within the RNOH the X-ray department provides essential imaging services to the Trust.
A brand new x-ray machine has just been installed at Stanmore. Other new developments within the last 12 months include, the newly installed DEXA unit, 6 new flat panel theatre image intensifiers including one with a 3D functionality. Full training and support will be provided in all areas of the x-ray department.
You will gain more experience in specialised orthopaedic imaging within the X-ray and Theatre departments and be able to provide an efficient service to our patients. CPD is actively encouraged and supported.
The post holder will be clinically responsible to the Consultant Radiologists and be expected to perform a wide range of X-ray procedures.
Working closely with colleagues you will manage the day to day running of the area you are working in and liaise with other teams and staff members to ensure the effective use of the imaging service.
You will work according to Trust and departmental level protocols and ensure you comply with IRMER17 and IRR17 regulations at all times, ensuring all patient radiation doses are as low as possible and that every exposure is justified.
You will ensure the safety of all patients and staff who enter the radiation controlled areas.
