The Wiltshire IAPT service offers talking therapies to residents of Wiltshire who may be experiencing common mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety.
This role offers a fantastic opportunity for anyone keen to take up a career as a psychological wellbeing practitioner. You will spend the year in our service providing high volume, low intensity patient interventions whilst undertaking a programme of study with Exeter University for a PGCert & degree level 6 in Psychological Therapies Practice (Low Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)
This will equip you to provide a range of CBT based self-management interventions to patients with mild to moderate anxiety and depression in a qualified PWP position. Upon successful completion of your training, you can apply for a permanent PWP post within our service.
The successful applicant will need to have a degree (or equivalent) as well as one years’ working experience in settings with high exposure to people with mental health difficulties which can include voluntary work or expertise gained by experience of mental health problems. It is essential to have the interpersonal skills to engage and develop working alliances with colleagues and patients
Structure
The PWP training programme is delivered over 45 days of which 30 are delivered at the University of Exeter (or taught online) and 15 are set as university structured and directed learning days that can be undertaken outside of the university.
On a weekly basis, your working pattern will normally be:
2 days per weekwill be used for taught and self study days, as required by Exeter University.
3 days per weekwill be dedicated to clinical work where you will initially be shadowing colleagues whilst learning how we operate, and then beginning to pick up your own clinical caseload using your newly developed skills.
The training will start on Wednesday 13th September 2023, however, your start date in service will be Monday 11th September 2023. Please see the training dates information included with the job description. Applicants must be able to commit to all dates.

Key responsibilities include:
- Accept referrals via agreed protocols within the service.
- Assess and support people with a common mental health problem in the self management of their recovery.
- Undertake patient – centred interviews which identify areas where the person wishes to see change and or recovery and make an accurate assessment of risk to self and others.
- Make decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to the department’s referral protocols, and refer unsuitable clients on to the relevant service or back to the referral agent as necessary or steps-ups the person’s treatment to high intensity.
- Provide a range of information and support for evidence based high volume low intensity psychological treatments. This may include guided self – help computerised CBT, information about pharmacological treatments. This work may be face to face, telephone or via other media.
