Job description

Job summary

Do you have a passion for great online user experience and a keen eye for detail? We're looking for an enthusiastic Digital Communications Assistant to help us improve and maintain our website, intranet and other digital channels.

There's never been a more exciting time to join our Web Team. You'll play a key part in our intranet redevelopment programme, as well as helping us to complete and maintain key website projects.

You'll need to be able to work well on your own, and with the rest of the team to deliver high-quality digital material, often to a tight deadline. From building a landing page, to writing an email bulletin; from proof reading, to designing images for social media - this is a varied and challenging role.

While we're looking for basic web publishing know-how, editorial skill is more important than your ability to develop a website from scratch, so you'll need to display excellent written English. We'll give you lots of opportunities to level up your creative and technical expertise, with protected training time and funding for courses in design, development and more.

As well as a generous leave allowance, NHS pension, health service discounts and other staff benefits, we like to offer our team members the chance to progress and take their career to the next level.

Our friendly team will help you to settle in to this fast-paced environment in no time. As well as helping you to grow, we also look forward to learning from your knowledge and experience.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

As a Digital Communications Assistant, you'll never be bored. One minute you'll be uploading clinical documents; the next you may find yourself building a campaign landing page.

On a day-to-day basis, you'll be responsible for helping to monitor and respond to emails for the team, handling queries and tasks yourself, and assigning jobs to other team members where needed.

Much of your time will be spent managing our websites and intranet. This will include uploading documents and creating and editing pages across the sites, using your keen eye for design and technical expertise. You'll use your excellent written English skills to proofread, edit and draft copy on the sites. There'll also be plenty of opportunities to help out with the intranet redevelopment programme - the biggest piece of work ever taken on by our Web Team.

You'll play a huge part in ensuring the quality of UHB's online content. Web accessibility is very important at UHB, so part of your role will be to make sure that anything we publish can be used and understood by as many people as possible.

As well as our web and intranet sites, the Web Team is responsible for messages being published on our screensaver and digital screen systems to display important information to staff and patients. You may also be asked to help the Communications and Graphics teams with social media graphics or animations, and to help with designing and sending email bulletins.
