Job summary
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Band 3 Medical Secretary (30hrs per week) to join our friendly team and provide secretarial support within the Urology Department at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital (may require some cross site working). The successful candidate will be required to be a key member of the secretarial team, taking a lead role in supporting the Band 4 Medical Secretary/Supervisors and by providing a professional and high quality secretarial and administrative service at all times.
Main duties, tasks & skills required
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Band 3 part-time Medical Secretary (30hrs per week) to join our friendly secretarial team within the Urology Department at University Hospital Birmingham. The post will be based on Birmingham Heartlands Hospital site.
This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who relishes a challenge and is keen to use their own initiative. The successful candidate will be required to be a key member of the secretarial team, providing a professional and high quality secretarial and administrative service at all times.
You will be required to work to a high standard of accuracy and be able to demonstrate initiative in planning your own workload in a way that supports the Medical Secretary/Supervisors and the wider team. Our admin team is a part of a busy department and each Medical Secretary/Supervisor is a proactive secretary to the consultants and you will be required to help manage their day to day admin, booking admissions/appointments, importing documentation to electronic patient records, typing letters, liaising with patients and colleagues both internally and externally. You must be willing to assist the Medical Secretary/Supervisor, consultants and the department in providing the best possible care to our patient and service users in line with our trust values and mission statement.

Qualifications
Essential
Good general education (eg GCSE English and Maths A-C) GCSE Level 9-4
Business Administration NVQ Level 3 or equivalent experience in a clerical environment
Experience

Experience of dealing with the Public/Customer service experience
Experience of working with a range of Microsoft Office packages (eg Word, Excel and Outlook)
Experience of using IT systems
