An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Health Care Assistant to join the nursing team in the Fracture and Orthopaedic Outpatient Department at Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust.

The department has recently relocated to a bigger re-designed department in therefore this post will aid in this transition and support additional activity within the department.

The post holder will be prepared to work collaboratively with all services including, where needed, working in differing outpatient departments within the same/current job role but differing specialities areas outside of your speciality at times of need.

Due to the unpredictable nature of injuries, the fracture clinics can be very busy. The post holder will support plaster room colleagues to brace and splint limbs (once full training has been given) for all patients of all ages with fractures and orthopaedic conditions and give advice and information during the treatment process and associated aftercare.

We would welcome applications from individuals who have a genuine interest in outpatient nursing who are motivated , enthusiastic individuals committed to providing excellent patient care. You must be experienced in working within a team structure as well as possess excellent time management and organisation skills.

If you are considering applying for part time hours we would only be able to offer a minimum of 32 hours per week to meet the demands of the service.

Our Clinics are led by Consultants with registrars and specialist physiotherapists working alongside them. The role will involve supporting and organising these clinics. Our clinics are held on every week day. A flexible approach to working is essential.

  • You will need to have excellent communication skills. In particular listening skills as well as having a friendly, open, empathetic & compassionate communication style.
  • A strong ability to engage with patients, visitors and colleagues.
  • Good IT skills to support clinicians using EPR via our IT system.
  • Work alongside the nursing team in the day to day running of clinics.
  • Addressing patient queries effectively to offer support and reassurance.
  • Clean, prepare and assemble equipment prior to and during treatment
  • Prepare all areas prior to any clinical activities ensuring equipment is checked ready for use.
  • Ensure equipment is stored correctly.
  • Assist with stock control.

Previous experience within a health care setting is essential, preferably within secondary care with a secondary education qualification in numeracy and literacy. It would be advantageous if all applicants had an NVQ/QCF in Health and Social Care but show a willingness to undertake if these qualifications have not been achieved
