We have a fantastic opportunity that has opened up on our dialysis ward here on the QE site for a Health Care Assistant. You would be working with a very friendly, supportive and experienced team, caring for patients who are inpatients and chronic outpatients, who need to come to us for their life saving treatment. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse assist and support all members of the dialysis ward team. As part of this team the post holder will be expected to deliver a high standard of patient care maintaining at all times a caring and professional attitude towards patients undergoing treatment / investigation in hospital or satellite setting. Successful achievement of competencies and training is required to facilitate full undertaking of the role.
Main duties, tasks & skills required
1Clinical - on a daily basis.
1.1
Receive, direct and assist patients and relatives attending the Dialysis wards ensuring they understand the functions of the ward
1.2Prepare bed space and dialysis machines for treatment and strip following use and disinfect in accordance with Trust and ward infection control policies and guidelines. Ensure all equipment is thoroughly cleaned between patient use and linen changed and store as required according to Trust policy.
1.3On an infrequent basis chaperone patients during examination by medical staff and assist in the undertaking of procedures. Be mindful of issues of culture and religion and ensuring privacy and dignity is maintained.
1.4In accordance with individual patient care, pre and post dialysis treatment undertake and accurately record observations of blood pressure, pulse, weight, temperature, waterlow and nutrition scores, as required by each patient, reporting back to registered nurse in charge. Undertake other observations as directed by the registered nurse.
1.5Observe and report to a qualified nurse all changes in a patient's physical and psychological condition.
1.6Assist in the repositioning of patients and the moving and handling of patients and dialysis machines and associated equipment used within the ward.

- Functional skills Level 2 English Language and Maths Qualification or GCSE Grade C or above in Maths and English Language
- Care Certificate or evidence or Training & Development associated with Health Care Support Worker role
- Level 2/3 NVQ/ Diploma in Health
Experience
Essential
- Experience of working / participating as part of a team.
- Evidence of ability to work using own initiative and under minimal supervision
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the role and tasks involved
- Can articulate the reasons for training/ standards of practice and behaviour and how these may be demonstrated / relate to patient care and safety
Desirable
- Minimum of 6 months experience in a care environment in the last 12 months
