SALARY: £66,861 - £74,290
LOCATION(S): Chester
HOURS: [Full-time]
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week currently, or 40% of our time, at our Chester Office (CH4 9FB)
About this opportunity…
This is an excellent opportunity to join us as a Back End Engineer in our Consumer Finance Platform – Cards Lab where as a highly experienced member of our Software Engineering team you would demonstrate and apply engineering best practices and skills in addition to mentoring our more junior team members.
We’re looking for a positive teammate who loves to find innovative solutions to problems, is experienced in Java back-end engineering, is eager to learn and has a passion to ensure quality software is delivered for customers and colleagues.
You can expect to be doing…
- Participating in the full software development lifecycle to design, build, test, deploy and support digital systems.
- Working hands-on to deliver the highest quality software.
- Working in a feature team delivering exciting customer driven solutions.
- Working in a highly collaborative way to complete assigned work, highlight progress and address problems.
- Collaborating with the Product team to implement credit card banking products.
- Mentoring and coaching as well as additional leadership activities.

We understand no one can be an expert in every aspect of Software Engineering. However, if you have some Back End development knowledge/experience with a Java engineering background, we’d like to hear from you.
Specifically, we’re looking for people who have…
- Java/Spring/Hibernate/Databases
- Rest/SOAP
- Web based application development.
- Agile experience and excellent critical thinking skills
- Strong experience of the software development lifecycle and in-depth experience in delivery of software.
- A team-player who can build relationships and work productively with others across a variety of domains and disciplines.
- Passion for technology and its application to real-world problems.
It would be great if you had…
- Quality Engineering including test automation
- CI/CD/DevOps tooling experience including GIT, Docker, Cypress, jMeter etc.
