We are looking for Engineering Apprentices to join our Engineering team based at London City Airport.

About the programme
On our 30-month Apprenticeship programme, you’ll be learning in a state-of-the-art training environment. Within the training facility you’ll develop your basic engineering skills, studying towards your ‘A’ Licence combined with being involved in line and base maintenance working around live aircraft. You’ll develop your key skills within this fast paced and exciting environment.
You will learn what is required to maintain a fleet modern jet aircraft with a network covering the UK and Europe.
The skills and qualifications gained will enable you to carry out routine maintenance on live aircraft and certify for flight using your EASA Part 66 A Licence.
You will need to demonstrate excellent communication skills, be able to work in a demanding environment and be able to put safety first in everything you do. You will have a keen interest in Engineering.

The initial induction to the business for this Apprenticeship will take place at our London City Airport base. For the remainder of the first year, you will then be based off-site at Cotswolds Airport and living away from home which is where you will train and study towards your CAA Part-66 A Licence Modules, as well as a Level 2 Diploma in Aerospace and Aviation Engineering, City and Guilds 4605-2. During your time away from London City Airport, we will provide complimentary accommodation for you close to your training base.
For years two and three, you will return to our London City Airport and KLM UK Engineering based in Norwich.
You’ll continue to study towards achieving a Level 3 Engineering Technician apprenticeship (Aircraft Maintenance Fitter/Technician - Fixed and Rotary Wing); and by completing a Level 3 Diploma in Aviation Maintenance (Development Competence).
You will also gain OJT on live aircraft at London City Airport and KLM UK Engineering, Norwich working as part of a team carrying out routine maintenance and tasks.
The Role
- Work with our engineering teams and develop your skills helping with the maintenance of our fleet of aircraft
- Be involved in routine aircraft maintenance
- Learn about the importance of health, safety and security in everything our engineering teams do
- Develop your engineering skills and knowledge through a combination of on - the - job learning and coursework
- Gain formal qualifications that will set you up for a successful career as an aircraft mechanic or engineer
What we look for
Must hold or be predicted to obtain required grades before the apprenticeship start date;
- 5 GCSE grades A - C or 9 - 4, including Maths & English or Level 2 Engineering plus Maths and English (GCSE’s including grades A- C or 9 - 4)
- Hold a valid UK/EU passport with the right to live and work in the UK
- Genuine interest in, and passion for engineering
- Strong communication skills
- Awareness of safety issues
- Self-motivation to learn and develop
- Ability to act on own initiative
- Adaptability to change
IMPORTANT QUALIFICATION INFORMATION
- The apprenticeship involves being based off site and living away from home for a period of 12-months plus short trips away from home whilst based in Norwich.
- Apprenticeship start date to be advised.
- If you hold or are due to achieve a City & Guilds on Aircraft Maintenance – Category A license or you hold an EASA Part 66 A license or higher unfortunately you will be deemed as overqualified for this position and therefore cannot be considered for this role.
