Locum Childcare Lawyer – Predominately Remote Working – £60 per hour umbrella – East Midlands

Venn Group’s specialist legal team are currently working with an established Local Authority in the East Midlands who are recruiting for a Locum Childcare Lawyer to join their legal department.

This is a full-time position however candidates with part-time availability may also be considered. The role is offered for a period of 3-6 Months with a possibility of a further extension and will be worked on a primarily remote basis with occasional attendance at hearings being a possibility.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Solicitor, Barrister or Legal Executive to become part of a forward thinking, proactive Local Authority.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience working within Local Government and Childcare Law and be comfortable to conduct their own advocacy.

Duties may include:

• Managing a busy and varied caseload of Childcare cases to include all pre-proceedings matters
• Advising at LPM and PLO meetings
• Performing own advocacy
• Advising client departments on complex issues concerning Childcare Law
• Providing Childcare Public Law advice and undertake all aspects of Care Proceedings work
• Attending and advise at meetings across the County attended by professionals, particularly Legal Planning Meetings and PLO meetings and other similar meetings as directed by the Principal Lawyer and/or Assistant Chief Legal Officer
• Conducting advocacy before the Family Courts and instruct counsel and the Council's in-house advocates where appropriate as well as preparation of cases
• Ensuring that decisions made by the client department are lawful and accord with County Council policy
• Maintaining an awareness of all relevant legislation, policy and regulations related to childcare matter
• Investigating and advising on implications of changing legislation, case law and codes of practice and policy and provide briefing notes and training for colleagues and client officers.
