Our law office, based in Peterborough, Ontario, is seeking a highly motivated and talented Associate Lawyer to join our dynamic team. We specialize in civil litigation and family law, providing comprehensive legal services to individuals, families, and businesses in the Peterborough area. We are currently seeking an Associate Lawyer with a strong background in civil litigation and family law to support our growing practice. The successful candidate will work closely with our senior lawyers and contribute to a wide range of legal matters, including but not limited to divorce and separation, child custody, spousal support, property division, personal injury claims, contract disputes, and general civil litigation cases.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct legal research, analyze case facts, and advise clients on legal strategies in civil litigation and family law matters.
- Draft and review legal documents, including pleadings, motions, affidavits, and settlement agreements.
- Represent clients in court proceedings, mediations, negotiations, and alternative dispute resolution forums.
- Collaborate with senior lawyers and assist in preparing for trials and hearings, including gathering evidence, conducting witness interviews, and organizing documentation.
- Provide legal guidance and support to clients, ensuring their understanding of legal processes, rights, and obligations.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case files, including correspondence, court documents, and other relevant materials.
- Attend client meetings, consultations, and court appearances as required.
- Stay current with changes in legislation, case law, and legal trends in civil litigation and family law.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- Preferred 1-2 years of experience practicing law, with a focus on civil litigation and family law.
- Strong knowledge of the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure, Family Law Rules, and relevant legislation.
- Demonstrated ability to independently handle a diverse caseload with excellent attention to detail and time management skills.
- Exceptional research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively advocate for clients and negotiate favorable outcomes.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain client relationships.
- Proficiency in legal research tools, case management software, and MS Office Suite.
