The Animal Technician Programme (ATP) links our employer partners with candidates with one key focus ‘to train and place animal lovers into a career as Animal Technician. Our sole aim is to provide suitable, enthusiastic and passionate Animal Technicians to employer partners nationwide.

As you can appreciate, with animal welfare being such a high priority all new trainee animal technicians must complete a short 12-week induction training programme. This will comprise of several short and very basic multiple-choice study modules, followed by a week of unpaid work experience at a client site to put into practice what you’ve learned in your very basic study modules and get a feel for the working environment. Successful candidates then progress onto 11 weeks of paid work experience and training, working alongside experienced and qualified Animal Technicians. Upon accreditation, at week 12 you can expect to be either permanently employed by the client or choose to enrol as a temporary worker with the flexibility to work at client sites across the country.”

Daily duties working as an Animal Technician include;

  • Feeding and watering
  • General health checking
  • Handling animals
  • Cage cleaning and washing

The qualities of an Animal Technician are:

  • High levels of motivation and a good work ethic
  • A genuine passion to work with animals - demonstrating care, welfare, and compassion
  • Previous experience working with (and handling) animals would be beneficial
  • Accurate data entry
  • Flexible and adaptable
  • Enjoys working on your own and as part of a team
